Langues : Américain (ame) Tags : Air plasma spray Thermal barrier coatings Microstructure conductivity Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nanostructured 8 wt% yttria partially stabilized zirconia coatings were deposited by air plasma spraying. Transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction were carried out to analyze the as-sprayed coatings and powders. Mercury intrusion porosimetry was applied to analyze the pore size distribution. Laser flash technique and differential scanning calorimetry were used to examine the thermophysical properties of the nanostructured coatings. The results demonstrate that the as-sprayed nanostructured zirconia coatings consist of the nonequilibrium tetragonal phase. The microstructure of the nanostructured coatings includes the initial nanostructure of powder and columnar grains. Moreover, micron-sized equiaxed grains were also exhibited in the nanostructured coatings. Their evolution mechanisms are discussed. The as-sprayed nanostructured zirconia coating shows a bimodal pore size distribution, and has a lower value of thermal conductivity than the conventional coating. Measurements were made from samples prepared in an essentially CO2-free, H2O-free glove box and from samples prepared in ambient conditions. For those prepared in a CO2-free glove box, AFM imaging was conducted on (1) an unexposed air/coating surface, (2) an unexposed coating bulk, (3) an unexposed coating/substrate interface, and (4) a field exposed air/coating surface. For samples prepared in ambient conditions, only the unexposed air/coating surface was investigated. The same regions of the exposed samples were scanned periodically by the AFM to monitor changes in the surface morphology of the coating as UV exposure progressed. Small angle neutron scattering and Fourier transfonn infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) studies were performed to verify the microstructure and to follow chemical changes during outdoor exposure, respectively. The results have shown that amine blushing, which occurs only under ambient conditions, had a significant effect on the surface morphology and microstructure of the epoxy. The surface morphology of the samples prepared under CO2-free, dry conditions was generally smooth and homogeneous. However, the interface and the bulk samples clearly revealed a two-phase structure consisting of bright nodular domains and dark interstitial regions, indicating an inhomogeneous microstructure. Such heterogeneous structure of the bulk was in good agreement with results obtained by small angle neutron scattering of unexposed samples and by AFM phase imaging of the degraded sample surface. The relationship between submicrometer physical changes and molecular chemical degradation is discussed. Because reproducible and cost effective data are difficult to obtain, an approach based on computer simulation and modeling is a promising supplementary tool. We describe the simulation of a painted surface consisting of pigment particles of known size, pigment volume concentration and dispersion, situated in a binder that erodes over time due to exposure to ultraviolet radiation. Pigment particle size, geometry, pigment volume concentration, and pigment particle dispersion are parameters of the model. Our purpose is to illustrate how simulation can be used to aid the development of formulation strategies for the design of coatings with desirable gloss characteristics.
Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=26252
