Corrosion performance of the nano-composite coatings were evaluated by applying these nanocomposites on mild steel substrate and exposing them to salt spray, humidity, and accelerated weathering. Mechanical properties were studied by subjecting the coating to scratch and abrasion test. The results showed that, with an increase in the concentration of nano-Al2O3 there was an improvement in the corrosion resistance, UV resistance, and mechanical properties of the coatings indicating the positive effect of addition of nano-Al2O3 particles in the coatings. Further, the transparency of the coating was not altered, maintaining the optical clarity of the coating.

The ratio of UVA and HALS strongly depends on the concentration of pigments (acting as UVA) used in the paint; that is, a clearcoatings require higher amounts of UVA, whereas opaque pigmented coatings require higher amounts of HALS. Here, especially basic HALS types can interfere with paint components like, for example, pigments due to acid/base interactions. In this article, we want to discuss the influence of HALS basicity on long-term performance in opaque white pigmented solventborne (SB) and waterborne (WB) coatings for industrial applications in correlation to the quality of the used TiO2. The as-prepared HAp coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analyses. The influence of ethanol on the phases and microstructures of HAp coatings was investigated. Results show that the coatings’ crystallization shows little change with the increase in ethanol content up to 15%, but the density, homogeneousness, and adhesion with the substrate of HAp coatings obviously improved. The deposition mechanism of the HAp coating is also discussed. Thus, it is helpful to get dense and good-adhesion HAp coatings when ethanol is added into the solution during the hydrothermal electrodeposition process. Langues : Américain (ame) Tags : Air plasma spray Thermal barrier coatings Microstructure conductivity Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Nanostructured 8 wt% yttria partially stabilized zirconia coatings were deposited by air plasma spraying. Transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction were carried out to analyze the as-sprayed coatings and powders. Mercury intrusion porosimetry was applied to analyze the pore size distribution. Laser flash technique and differential scanning calorimetry were used to examine the thermophysical properties of the nanostructured coatings. The results demonstrate that the as-sprayed nanostructured zirconia coatings consist of the nonequilibrium tetragonal phase. The microstructure of the nanostructured coatings includes the initial nanostructure of powder and columnar grains. Moreover, micron-sized equiaxed grains were also exhibited in the nanostructured coatings. Their evolution mechanisms are discussed. The as-sprayed nanostructured zirconia coating shows a bimodal pore size distribution, and has a lower value of thermal conductivity than the conventional coating. Langues : Américain (ame) Tags : Flow-induced corrosion Coatings Acceleration tests EIS Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : For corrosion protective coatings that are designed to give lifetimes of protection that may extend to 50 years, valid accelerated test methods are necessary to develop improved systems and validate performance. Fluid flow over metals has long been believed to influence the corrosion process. Studies have been focused on the effects of flow rate on the corrosion of bare metals. The influence of fluid flow on the degradation of metal-protective coatings has received less attention. This paper describes a preliminary study on the influence of laminar flow on organic coatings. A Hele-Shaw cell and its associated fluid control apparatuses are incorporated into the electrochemical cell setup. The barrier properties of the coating as a function of immersion time and flow rate have been monitored by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. We observe that the barrier properties of the coating measured electrochemically decrease exponentially with the increasing flow rate. We propose that the flowing electrolyte solution could be used in acceleration tests for the lifetime prediction of organic coatings as the acceleration of failure we have observed does not appear to change the mechanism of failure. Further analysis is proposed to validate immersion flow rate as a universal accelerating parameter for coating failure.
