However, most of the phosphate deposits contain carbonate impurities, which deteriorate the flotation selectivity using sodium oleate. In this paper, the amenability of the carbonate separation from a sedimentary phosphate ore through bio-flotation process, as a one of various efforts to solve the carbonate problem, was tested. The interaction of two types of bacteria (Corynebacterium-diphtheriae-intermedius, CDI, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, PA) with sodium oleate was investigated. The interaction between collector and bacteria was determined by Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) measurements, zeta potential before and after adsorption of bacteria, as well as frothing power. The results showed that bio-flotation could produce a phosphate concentrate of 0.85 % MgO and 30.2 % P2O5 with a recovery of 92 % at pH 5.5, 1.25 kg/t sodium oleate, ≥ 1 × 108 cells of CDI bacteria. The specification of such concentrate could not be obtained by the conventional flotation experiments, in absence of bacteria, under similar conditions. This means that bacteria could play a significant role as a surface modifier due to its selective adsorption onto the mineral surface as well as its interaction with collector.

Partially and fully epoxidized soybean oils (ESBO) were converted to novel soybean oil phosphate ester polyols (SOPEP) which were successfully incorporated into solventborne and waterborne bake coatings. Thermally cured waterborne alkyd coatings were produced with improved coating adhesion, low volatile organic compounds (VOC), excellent impact resistance, good hardness, less severe curing conditions, and lower cost. Solventborne alkyd coatings gave similar results. Soybean oil phosphate ester polyols appear to offer the coatings industry a low cost route to tough, durable, environmentally compliant, high performance coatings. The analysis was first realized through a friction test. This article deals with the application of a numerical identification procedure of coating bulk behavior to the studied cases. The mechanical properties of the chosen coatings are identified using Vickers microindentation. A plastic behavior law representing the coating and its neighboring substrate is identified using an inverse approach. The obtained bulk behavior law of the coating provides an accurate understanding of the performance of that coating. Many correlations are posited between the behavior laws, such as resistance to seizure and other characterization results, particularly SEM examination and coating weight. This knowledge leads to an objective optimization of the manganese phosphating process using finite element computation.
