SiliceLa silice est la forme naturelle du dioxyde de silicium (SiO2) qui entre dans la composition de nombreux minéraux.
La silice existe à l'état libre sous différentes formes cristallines ou amorphes et à l'état combiné dans les silicates, les groupes SiO2 étant alors liés à d'autres atomes (Al : Aluminium, Fe : Fer, Mg : Magnésium, Ca : Calcium, Na : Sodium, K : Potassium...).
Les silicates sont les constituants principaux du manteau et de l'écorce terrestre. La silice libre est également très abondante dans la nature, sous forme de quartz, de calcédoine et de terre de diatomée. La silice représente 60,6 % de la masse de la croûte terrestre continentale.

SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : The gradually increasing detergents consumption in Germany since 1950 resulted in higher emissions of their ingredients to the environment. The first generation of mineral oil-based surfactants, tetrapropylene benzene sulfonate (TPS), exhibited poor biodegradability and caused public environmental concerns. These prompted Henkel in 1958 to start a systematic measurement of some main detergent constituents in the river Rhine in Germany. Since then, a number of monitoring activities regarding the determination of detergent ingredients concentrations and freights in rivers and waste water treatment plants (WWTP) followed. This paper summarizes 50 years experience at Henkel in monitoring of detergent ingredients in the aquatic environment. The long-term monitoring results on the river Rhine provides an impressive record of the development of the environmental burden by surfactant emissions and of the gradual improvement of river water quality over time. The reasons for the changes are discussed. Further monitoring activities on WWTPs have shown for the first time, that domestic wastewater treatment plants (DWTP) are similarly suitable for the removal of surfactants like municipal ones. The good removal of prominent organic detergent ingredients was shown by several time-proportional sampling campaigns in municipal WWTPs. Finally the positive impact of the modernisation of a municipal WWTP on the chemical and biological water quality on a small river creek is reported over the time period of 7 years. All of the reported studies indicate a low environmental burden due to the use of detergents ingredients today. The learnings from the different activities in environmental monitoring by Henkel have contributed to a solid understanding of the fate of detergent ingredients in the environment. This in turn was the prerequisite for development of reliable exposure prediction models. Today, Henkel employs both, environmental monitoring and modeling instruments, for assessing the environmental exposure of chemicals. The number of participants increased this year to over 2,500, from more than 40 countries. In the exhibition section, 218 exhibitors offered products and services.
A programme of 38 lectures offered a broad range of comprehensive information on the characteristics and functions of surfactants, detergents and cleaning products, exarnining both the scientific basis of these products in the 12th European Detergents Conference, as well as their practical applications in the sessions on detergents, cleaning products and cosmetics. The subject of the sustainability of detergents was presented jointly by the Detergents Committee of the German Chemical Society (GDC h/ HAD) and the SEPAWA Expert Group Legislation, Environrnent and Consumers (LUV).
The cosmetics lectures covered protection of the skin and pair against negative environmental influences using particular active substances and special test and examination methods. The lectures were presented in two sessions in collaboration with the German Society for Scientific and Applied Cosmetics (DOK) and the SEPAWA Specialist Group Cosmetic Applications and Technology (CAT). In an interactive programme entitled "Perfunne in Everyday Life," the German Society of Perfumers (DGP) presented the value-added chain from fragrances through perfumes to consumer products, which,was followed by a presentation of the indispensable influence of perfumes on the acceptante and success of consumer products.
The lecture series "Forum for Innovations" featured 68 short presentations on new product developments, applications and procedures for detergents, cleaning products and cosmetics. To promote quality training for the next generation, SEPAWA awarded 8 prizes for outstanding achievement : 3 for master's theses, 3 for undergraduate theses and 2 for dissertations. This year, there were three recipients of the SEPAWA Innovation Award for outstanding innovation in the field of detergents, cleaning products, cosmetics and perfumery.

EnzymesUne enzyme est une protéine dotée de propriétés catalytiques. Pratiquement toutes les biomolécules capables de catalyser des réactions chimiques dans les cellules sont des enzymes ; certaines biomolécules catalytiques sont cependant constituées d'ARN et sont donc distinctes des enzymes : ce sont les ribozymes.
Une enzyme agit en abaissant l'énergie d'activation d'une réaction chimique, ce qui accroît la vitesse de réaction. L'enzyme n'est pas modifiée au cours de la réaction. Les molécules initiales sont les substrats de l'enzyme, et les molécules formées à partir de ces substrats sont les produits de la réaction. Presque tous les processus métaboliques de la cellule ont besoin d'enzymes pour se dérouler à une vitesse suffisante pour maintenir la vie. Les enzymes catalysent plus de 5 000 réactions chimiques différentes2. L'ensemble des enzymes d'une cellule détermine les voies métaboliques qui peuvent avoir lieu dans cette cellule. L'étude des enzymes est appelée enzymologie.
Les enzymes permettent à des réactions de se produire des millions de fois plus vite qu'en leur absence. Un exemple extrême est l'orotidine-5'-phosphate décarboxylase, qui catalyse en quelques millisecondes une réaction qui prendrait, en son absence, plusieurs millions d'années3,4. Comme tous les catalyseurs, les enzymes ne sont pas modifiées au cours des réactions qu'elles catalysent, et ne modifient pas l'équilibre chimique entre substrats et produits. Les enzymes diffèrent en revanche de la plupart des autres types de catalyseurs par leur très grande spécificité. Cette spécificité découle de leur structure tridimensionnelle. De plus, l'activité d'une enzyme est modulée par diverses autres molécules : un inhibiteur enzymatique est une molécule qui ralentit l'activité d'une enzyme, tandis qu'un activateur de cette enzyme l'accélère ; de nombreux médicaments et poisons sont des inhibiteurs enzymatiques. Par ailleurs, l'activité d'une enzyme décroît rapidement en dehors de sa température et de son pH optimums.

The change of venue to Berlin was well received, as evidenced by an increase in the number of delegates, to more than 3,000 from 49 countries, as well as growth in the number of exhibitors, to 254 companies. These figures represented new records for both participants and exhibitors.
A programme of 39 scientific lectures offered a broad range of comprehensive information on the characteristics and functions of surfactants and detergents, examining both the scientific basis of these products in the 13th European Detergents Conference, as well as their practical applications in the different sessions on detergents, cleaning products and cosmetics. The lecture series "forum for Innovations" featured 69 short presentations on new product developments, applications and procedures for detergents and cosmetics.
The Detergents Committee of the German Chemists Society (GDCh/HAD) and the SEPAWA Specialist Group Legislation, Environnent and Consumers (LUV) addressed the subject of the sustainability of detergent ingredients with joint reports on the biodegradability of fragrances in detergents, the traceability of certified oil palet products and the marketplace for RSPO credits, and current legislative regulations.
The cosmetics lectures covering care and protection of skin and hair by individual substances and new applications were presented in conjunction with the SEPAWA Specialist Group Cosmetic Applications and Technology (CAT) and the German Society for Scientific and Applied Cosmetics (DGK).
The German Society of Perfumers (DGP) presented an interactive show about fragrances entitled "Bridge of Senses", shared treasures from the Osmothèque in Versailles and revealed new paths in the perfumery sector.
The SEPAWA Young Researcher Award was presented for 3 outstanding master's, 2 bachelor's and 3 doctoral theses. The SEPAWA Innovation Award for new developments in the field of cosmetics and detergents was granted to 3 prizewinners.
In addition, the GDCh Specialist Group Detergency and Formulations awarded the Young Researcher Award for outstanding scientific research at the 13th European Detergents Conference.Note de contenu : - Structures and properties of surfactant, nano, micro and gel systems
