In this study, the effect of curing process on simulated antisoiling properties of sol–gel coating was investigated. The sol–gel coating was spray-coated on pine sapwood and cured with different temperature and time combinations. The antisoiling properties were studied by measuring the water contact angle of the coating after different curing processes. In addition, abrasion resistance and contact angle of oleic acid were measured. An optical profilometer was used to investigate surface roughness of the coating. Sufficient hydro- and oleophobicity were obtained with all of the curing parameters. The comparison between curing parameters showed that lower temperature and 1–3 h curing time leads to significant improvement in the durability of the water and oil repellent properties of the coating.
Tags : 'Dianix SF' Colorant 'Stabilité thermique des couleurs' Hydrophobicité 'Ethylène téréphtalate' 'Acide polylactique' Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : This paper addresses the relative effects of softeners having different properties and their method of application (exhaust vs pad) on the colour fastness of poly(lactic acid) fabrics dyed with a range of disperse dyes with different levels of hydrophobicity. A comparison was made with a correspondingly finished polyethylene terephthalate fabric. Possible relationships between the levels of hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity of the dye, and softener, and the colour fastness were explored. Finally, the amount of dye thermally migrated into the finish on the softened poly(lactic acid) and polyethylene terephthalate fabrics was examined in comparison with their colour fastness. Softened poly(lactic acid) fabrics dyed with CI Disperse Red 167.1 exhibited more thermal migration, and hence lower colour fastness, than the corresponding polyethylene terephthalate fabrics. Conversely, softened poly(lactic acid) fabrics dyed with Dianix Deep Red SF exhibited less thermal migration, and hence better colour fastness, than the corresponding polyethylene terephthalate fabrics. Overall, no clear relationship was found between the hydrophobic nature of the disperse dye and the hydrophobic character of the softener on the colour fastness. To accomplish this task, the coating itself must be water resistant but should also possess the additional performance properties expected of modern coatings. Branched vinyl esters provide the building blocks for preparing very hydrophobic binders by emulsion polymerization. Not only do these monomers have favorable reactivity with vinyl acetate but they also react affectivity with acrylates and can be formulated into a wide range of performance coatings. Hydrophobic polymers find use in a wide range of applications including architectural paints, building products and corrosion resistant coatings. In addition to the design of reliable measurements of water resistance, it would be beneficial to be able to predict the water sensitivity of materials based on composition. Calculations of oxygen contents and solubility parameters of polymers are proposed as useful approaches to estimating the hydrophilicity of coatings in order to define the hydrophilic limit imposed on coating by various water resistance tests.
