PG mixture obtained by the glycerolysis reaction was subjected to solvent extraction with methanol to concentrate PG. The enhanced partial glycerides (PGE) were thermally cured with Bz-Si. After that, the film sample cured by means of sol–gel reaction (CF(Bz-Si)/PGE) was examined in view of film properties. Applied tests showed that CF(Bz-Si)/PGE could be used as an oil-based binder for coating applications. Note de contenu : - Materials

The polymers were prepared at four different ratios of isocyanate component/oil. Sunflower and linseed oil alkyd resin samples were also prepared as the comparative samples. The results suggest that the viscosity and the film properties of urethane oils depend on the amount and type of isocyanate component. The increase in isocyanate content of the urethane oils caused high viscosity. In comparison with the samples having the same oil content, PBTDI-based samples showed the highest viscosity. Viscosity of the polymers can dramatically affect some film properties. For example, high polymer viscosity caused short drying time. In comparision of alkali and water resistances of urethane oils with those of alkyd resins, better results were obtained depending on the structure of the urethane oils. On the other hand, alkyd resins and TDI-based polymers exhibited the best hardness properties. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5647

StyrénationIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The synthesis of styrenated oils based on secondary esters of castor oil is described. The steps of the process are as follows : 1) esterification of castor oil with fatty acids of drying and semidrying oils ; 2) splitting of castor oil ester, and 3) conversion of the splitting mixture to either triglyceride or partial glyceride. While the triglyceride samples were styrenated by a conventional process, the partial glycerides' thermally labile azo groups were initially inserted into the oil molecule, and then this intermediate was reacted with styrene. The obtained styrenated oils showed good film properties Note de contenu : - Materials

The macromers were styrenated at 100°C using benzoil peroxide as an initiator. The styrenation led to improved film properties with semidrying oils. Homopolymerization of the macromoomers failed due to the stearic hindrance of the bulky oil moieties. The results obtained were also evaluated by considering the degree of unsaturation. TriglycéridesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this study, Poly(styrene-co-chloromethyl styrene) [Poly(St-co-CMS)] was prepared and used in the modification of triglyceride oils. The obtained modified triglyceride product was examined in view of oil-based binder. Nitroxide-mediated radical polymerization (NMRP) technique was applied for Poly(St-co-CMS) synthesis. Chloro groups on the Poly(St-co-CMS) backbone were reacted with 2-amino-1-butanol (2-AB) in order to obtain a polymer with hydroxyl ended side branches, [Poly(St—OH)], which were further combined with partial glycerides (PGs) through the reaction with toluene diisocyanate (TDI). The resulting product can also be considered as a polystyrene-modified urethane oil [Poly(St-OH)-SUO]. The structures of both intermediates, [Poly(St-co-CMS), Poly(St—OH)], and final products [Poly(St-OH)-SUO] were verified by using FTIR and 1H-NMR analyses. Additionally, thermal properties of the samples were determined. The film properties of Poly(St-OH)-SUO samples prepared with different polymer/oil ratios and classic urethane oil were examined. Poly(St-OH)-SUO-40 sample exhibited the best film properties among the others. In the end, the obtained results showed that Poly(St-OH)-SUO-40 could be utilized as an oil-based binder.
