Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : We have known that coatings principally are meant to deliver corrosion protection and aesthetics. A few polymeric materials used as coating go through many structural and physical changes, as cracks occur due to physical damage or environmental effect on ageing. These cracks may propagate and can potentially cause over all destruction of the coating as well as the target material itself. This has created a demand for automatic healing as a concept. This concept is mimicking the idea of natural power of self- healing observed in human skins. This process is nothing but incorporating some encapsulated healing materials which will be released in a controlled way to prevent crack propagation when a crack initiates. The encapsulation of active healing agents includes embedment of healing agent containing microcapsules or hollow fibres. There are also some reversible processes like Diels-Alder reaction, ionomers and supramolecular system which provide the self healing mechanism. In this paper, different kinds of self healing mechanism of coating like catalyst free self healing induced by sunlight, shape memory effect, electro-hydrodynamics, nano particle migration, co-deposition etc are also reviewed. Advantages as well as drawbacks have been described for those type of mechanism to achieve self healing property. Characterization and quantification techniques are also described in this review. Application of self healing coating in different sectors has been described and the acceptance of th is new generation coating by global market is also captured in this article. Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The epoxy resin coating has been widely used; however, its anticorrosion performance still needs to be improved. Basalt materials have been used as fillers in the field of anticorrosive coatings due to their good corrosion resistance and acid and alkali resistance. In this paper, 3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) was used as a coupling agent to modify the surface of basalt powder. The modified basalt powder (MBP) was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared-attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR). The MBP was added to epoxy resin in different proportions as fillers, and the coatings with different MBP contents were prepared by applying the mixture on the metal substrates. The hardness of coatings can be enhanced up to 0.25 GPa with the increase in MBP, and the elastic of coatings increases to the highest of 4.97 GPa for MBP-10/EP. Their water absorption rates after soaking in water for 21 h decreased to 0.75%. Meanwhile, the anticorrosion performance of the coatings on substrates during exposure to 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was investigated by using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and the circuit-fitting of EIS tests was also performed. The corrosion resistance of EP coating has been obviously improved by adding MBP, with the low-frequency impedance value (|Z|0.01Hz) of MBP-10/EP up to 2.43 × 108 Ω·cm2 after being immersed in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution for 15 d, which was 7.8 times higher than that of neat epoxy coating (MBP-0/EP).
Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : One of the main drawbacks of drying fruits is the degradation of their quality by oxidative processes. In this study, antioxidant pectin coatings were prepared and applied onto kiwi slices before the drying process to evaluate their effect on drying kinetics, on maintaining nutritional quality and antioxidant capacity of the cut fruit, and during 31 days of storage. Pectin antioxidant coating formulations have been developed by adding antioxidant extracts from fruits or antioxidant acids. Uncoated dehydrated fruits and those coated with pectin without antioxidants were used as control. Convective drying was carried out, desorption isotherms (30, 50 and 60°C) and drying kinetics (50 and 60°C) were analyzed, and the obtained experimental data were adjusted to the GAB and Page models, respectively. The dried kiwi slices were evaluated for their retention of antioxidants (vitamin C and phenolic compounds), total antioxidant activity (DPPH), mechanical properties, and color. The coatings had a slight influence on the isotherms and drying kinetics at the studied temperatures, mainly for the one performed at 30°C. However, the drying rate at 60°C decreased more rapidly and the Page model fit well with the experimental data. The antioxidant coatings preserved the thermosensitive compounds during drying, and formulations with the acerola extract and antioxidant acids may be highlighted since, in addition to the antioxidant effect, they also nutritionally enriched the kiwi slices. Thus, the proposed methodology is a promising technique to reduce the oxidative effects inherent in the drying and storage processes. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS : Material - Processing

Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Lignin, a vegetable compound, is the second most abundant biorenewable and biodegradable polymer in nature. In this study, the addition of this compound to paints containing ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and expandable graphite as pigments was investigated to improve the fire protection performance of intumescent coatings. The combination of lignin with polyaniline (PANI) in the formulations was also evaluated, as previous studies have shown that PANI-based paints show promising results in intumescent coatings. For this purpose, the thermal protection of mild steel samples coated with these organic coatings was evaluated during a fire resistance test, with the sample exposed to a Bunsen torch. During the test, temperature data and thermography images for the steel surface were collected. The coatings were also evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis and microscale combustion calorimetry. It was found that all coatings formulated provided good fire protection to the steel substrate and the lignin could be a good option to replace nonrenewable sources in intumescent paints, since the sample coated with the paint containing 10 wt% lignin reached 230°C after 30 min of assay. In addition, when this compound was used in combination with PANI, the flame protection was even better. The best performance was observed for the paint formulated with combination of 10 wt% lignin and 10 wt% PANI-ES, whose metal substrate temperature was 170°C after 30 min of assay.

Films were dried and characterized for chemical and mechanical resistances. Their films were highly resistant to water, solvents (acetone, toluene and methanol), and acids (10% hydrochloric acid and 20% sulfuric acid) and poorly resistant to alkali (10% sodium hydroxide) as well as adhesion, tensile strength, elongation test, modulus of elasticity, pinhole test and scratching and flexibility tests. Incorporation of ethylene glycol, glycerol, pentaerythritol and sorbitol with rosin was done to achieve good mechanical characteristics and high chemical resistance to these films.
