The low viscosity of epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO), its reactivity, and relatively low cost make it an inexpensive candidate co-resin in cationic thermally cured coatings and inks using blocked acid catalysts. Formulations with up to 40% ESBO in the epoxy resin blend were investigated. Blending of cycloaliphatic resin with 10% ESBO gave a bake coating with the same results as the standard formulation except pencil hardness was one unit lower when cured for 12 min at 120°C with a heat de-blocked catalyst. The hardness of coatings with ESBO is adjustable by changing the epoxy/polyol ratio, using harder polyols and harder epoxy resins. Noren, Auteur Année de publication : 2000 Article en page(s) : P. 53-59 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A 12-experiment Plackett-Burman screening design was used to evaluate two hydroxy functional fluorocarbon resins as components for cycloaliphatic epoxy-based cationic UV-curable formulations. The effects of six formulation variables were studied: fluoropolymer resin type, ratio of fluoropolymer resin to cycloaliphatic epoxy resin, anion of the photoinitiator, structure of the cycloaliphatic epoxy resin, photoinitiator level, and use of a thermal post cure. Physical properties (tensile strength, elongation, modulus, glass transition temperature (Tg), equilibrium modulus), yellowing after QUV exposure, water sensitivity, and coefficient of friction values for the 12 formulations were measured. The relationships between the formulation variables and the coating/film properties are discussed. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5801

Langues : Américain (ame) Tags : Etude expérimentale Formulation Amorceur anionique Réticulation photochimique Epoxydation Huile soja Corps gras végétal Rayonnement UV Durcissement Peinture Matériau revêtement Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Different formulations containing epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) and a commercial cycloaliphatic epoxy resin (UVR6110) were cured by onium tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)gallate (Gallate) on steel panels. The resulting coatings were clear and their mechanical properties were tested by the Sward hardness test, cross-hatch tape adhesion test and MEK double rub test. The new initiators have the advantage of good solubility, high reactivity, and the production of colorless coatings. The best formulations obtained contain 50% ESO, 50% UVR6110, and 0.5% silwet if sulfonium gallate is used as initiator, and 60% ESO, 40% UVR6110, and 0.5% silwet if iodonium gallate is the initiator. Although water-based and free radical radiation curing systems are the best known alternatives, a third technology-cationic UV curing - is being explored by the UK's ink research association, Pira. The results to date are very promising, reports David Atkinson, in an article in the July 1995 issue of Polymers Paint Colour Journal. Note de contenu : - Water based systems

RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The extent to which disturbing particles can be removed from coatings materials depends on the size of the particles and the consistency of the material. Whilst dirt particles with a large diameter can be removed by means of surface filtration, this is not so easily done with small particles. The only possibility here is deep filtration. There is a wide range of such filtering methods and materials available, which will be described in this article. Note de contenu : - Random-laid non-woven fabric as filter-material
