Titre : Aqueous PUDs : Effect of isocyanate type on coating properties Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Vilas D. Athawale, Auteur ; Sunil N. Peshane, Auteur Année de publication : 2002 Article en page(s) : p. 30-37 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Considering the growing awareness of the volatile organic compound (VOC) regulations and imperative development of waterborne surface coatings, a series of low VOC hydrophilically modified anionic aqueous polyurethane dispersions (PUDs) were prepared. The effect of aliphatic, cycloaliphatic and aromatic isocyanates (hard domains) on the coating properties of waterborne PUDs was studied extensively with regard to mechanical and performance properties. As the aromatic structure in polymer matrix increased the tensile strength increased remarkably where as elongation % decreased but the trend in this case was not so very distinct. The reactivity of isocyanate showed significant impact on bulk mechanical properties rather than surface mechanical properties. Titre : Chemoenzymatic synthesis and characterization of urethane oils for surface coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Vilas D. Athawale, Auteur ; M. D. Bhabhe, Auteur Année de publication : 1998 Article en page(s) : p. 43-48 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Two-step chemoenzymatic synthesis of urethane oils has been studied. Initially, the partial esters were prepared by lipase-catalyzed transesterification of soybean and linseed oils with n-butanol. Partial esters were further reacted with different diisocyanates to obtain urethane oils. The composition of the partial esters was varied with reaction time in the transesterification step. Among all the lipases, the lipozyme was found to be the most suitable lipase for the transesterification reaction, yielding 80-85%. All of the urethane oils were of low molecular weights irrespective of the type of oil used in their preparation. Urethane oils, based on MDI, exhibited the best scratch resistance. All of the urethane oils showed good acid and alkali resistance and excellent solvent resistance. These oils also satisfactorily passed the impact resistance and the flexibility tests.
