Virtually every type of printing ink uses some system or technique to enhance its drying capability. Often this means applying some type of energy to the ink to promote the evaporation of solvent, induce a chemical reaction, or a combination of both. Ovens or kilns and sources of electromagnetic radiation can be used to impart energy to a wet ink or coating converting it to a solid dry film. Electromagnetic radiation includes Radio Frequency (RF), Microwave, Infrared (IR) and Ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Electron Beam (EB) can also be used and this is analogous to UV in terms of the type of materials and chemistry used in ink and coating formulations. The aim of most printers is to achieve the conversion from wet to dry ink as quickly as possible. The most efficient and effective use of energy transfer combined with a similarly reactive ink or coating is going to be most successful in achieving this aim. The resulting coatings were clear and their mechanical properties were tested by the Sward hardness test, cross-hatch tape adhesion test and MEK double rub test. The new initiators have the advantage of good solubility, high reactivity, and the production of colorless coatings. The best formulations obtained contain 50% ESO, 50% UVR6110, and 0.5% silwet if sulfonium gallate is used as initiator, and 60% ESO, 40% UVR6110, and 0.5% silwet if iodonium gallate is the initiator. Previous work has explained particle morphology development in terms of the ability of second stage polymer radicals to diffuse into, or penetrate, the seed particles. This article investigates two separate effects that essentially alter the mobility of the second stage polymer radicals. The first is the initiator type, specifically nonionic versus ionic initiators, and the second is the use of chain transfer agent (CTA). It is shown that ionic initiators make it more likely to obtain core shell morphologies by decreasing the penetration of radicals, but only under a narrow set of conditions. Chain transfer agents, on the other hand, allow for more deviation from core shell morphologies by increasing the penetration of radicals, but significant changes were only observed at the highest concentration of CTA studied. Therefore, both factors are fairly subtle and effects are only observed under specific conditions. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5597

A series of organotin acrylic copolymer of varying tin content, molecular waight, monomer combination and monomer ratio has been synthesised by copolymerising Tributyl tin methacrylate monomer (TBTM) with Methyl methacrylate (MMA) and MMA/Butyl acrylate (BA) combination. Organic peroxides and azo compounds of varying H-abstracting abilities and half life were employed as initiators. Azo bis isobutyro nitrile (AIBN) initiator has been found to be an effective initiator in synthesis of organotin copolymers with very low level of residual monomers. Polymerisation temperature above 140°C is having a detrimental effect on properties of organotin copolymers. IR spectrometry, atomic absorption spectrometry, Gas liquid chromatography and viscosity measurements were used to evaluate the organotin acrylic polymers.
Self polishing co-polymer A/F Paints (SPCs) with varying tin content and volume solids were formulated using these synthesised organotin copolymers. Influence of different processing variables and binder composition on performance and effectiveness of SPC A/F paints have been evaluated by measuring the dry film thickness over a definite interval of time i.e. erosion rate & degree of fouling. It has been found that polishing rate of these SPC A/F paints depends on the ratio of methyl methacrylate & TBTM and on the nature of acrylate monomer used. Ratio of MMA/TBTM is inversely proportional to erosion rate of SPC's. BA/MMA/TBTM based organotin copolymer has faster rate of polishing than MMA/TBTM based copolymers.Note de contenu : - WORK DONE ON SELF POLISHING A/F PAINTS (SPCs) - Major advantages of Self Polishing Copolymer AF paints (SPCs)

For a better understanding of the emission characteristics, the release of volatile organic compounds from some specially manufactured furniture was studied in 1 m3 climate chambers. Special attention was given to the detection of photoinitiator fragments, which can significantly contribute to the pollution of indoor air. It was shown that the fragmentation products contributed 20-60% to the total emission, which was typically found in a range of 100 μ/m3 to 250 μg/m3 within the testing period of about 600 hr. One main compound was the strongly odorous benzaldehyde that is generated by many applied photoinitiators via α-cleavage. It was also observed that the curing time has a strong effect on the emission potential. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Sample preparation - Chamber tests - Sampling and analysis
