The composite films were prepared from pyrene (P)-labeled PS particles and SNaM clay at room temperature and annealed at elevated temperatures in 10-min intervals above glass transition temperature (Tq) of polystyrene. During the annealing processes, the transparency of the film improved considerably. Scattered light (IS) and fluorescence intensity (IP) from P were measured after each annealing step to monitor the stages of film formation. Evolution of transparency of composite films was monitored by using photon transmission intensity, Itr. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to detect the variation in physical structure of annealed composite films. Minimum film formation temperature, T0' and healing temperatures, Th' were determined. Void closure and interdiffusion stages were modeled and related activation energies were determined. It was observed that both activation energies increased as the percent of SNaM was increased in composite films. The analysis was first realized through a friction test. This article deals with the application of a numerical identification procedure of coating bulk behavior to the studied cases. The mechanical properties of the chosen coatings are identified using Vickers microindentation. A plastic behavior law representing the coating and its neighboring substrate is identified using an inverse approach. The obtained bulk behavior law of the coating provides an accurate understanding of the performance of that coating. Many correlations are posited between the behavior laws, such as resistance to seizure and other characterization results, particularly SEM examination and coating weight. This knowledge leads to an objective optimization of the manganese phosphating process using finite element computation. Tags : 'Peinture poudre' Thermoplastique 'Amide 11 polymère' 12 'Vinylique alcool copolymère' acétate 'Ethylène 'Vinylidène fluorure 'Etude expérimentale' 'Calorimétrie différentielle balayage' 'Diffraction RX' 'Traitement thermique' Trempe Recuit 'Propriété mécanique' Feuil Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This study examines thermoplastic polyamide 11, nylon 12, ethylenevinylacetate/vinylalcohol copolymer, poly (vinylidene fluoride), and polyester powder coatings via differential scanning calorimetry and wide angle x-ray diffraction studies to quantify annealing and quenching effects. As a part of this study, panels were coated and cured at 250°C for 5 min. Cooling was affected by either rapid quenching or controlled annealing. The thermal, mechanical, and x-ray diffraction analysis data indicate no significant property changes on quenching or annealing the thermoplastic coatings with the exception of the highly crystalline poly (vinylidene fluoride) coating. Annealing the latter coating reduced impact resistance and flexibility. These findings are consistent with earlier results in which no major stress development was observed in quenched thermosetting powder coatings, yet annealing increased crosslink density and diminished mechanical properties. Three sets of latex coatings were prepared from poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) particles. The first set of coatings was annealed at elevated temperatures in various time intervals during which reflected photon intensity, Irf, was measured. The second set of coatings was annealed at various temperatures in 10 min time intervals during which transmitted intensity, Itr, was measured. Irf first decreased and then increased as the annealing temperature was increased. Decrease in Irf was explained with the void closure mechanism due to viscous flow. Increase in Itr and Irf against time and temperature were attributed to an increase in crossing density at the junction surface. The activation energy of viscous flow, delta H, was measured and found to be around 8 kcal/mol and the back and forth activation energies (delta Erf and delta Etr) were measured and found to be around 49 and 53 kcal/mol for a reptating polymer chain across the junction surface. Diffusion of solvent molecules (chloroform) into the annealed latex coatings was followed by desorption of PMMA chains for the third set of films. Desorption of pyrene, P, labeled PMMA chains was monitored in real-time by the absorbance change of pyrene in the polymer-solvent mixture. A diffusion model with a moving boundary was employed to quantify real-time UVV data. Diffusion coefficients of desorbed PMMA chains were measured and found to be between 2 and 0.6 x 10-11 cm2 s-1 in the 100 and 275°C temperature range.
