PolyolsIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Hydrolysable gallotannins are naturally occurring polygalloyl esters of polyols (e.g., glucose) and are widespread in the plant kingdom. A totally new synthesis is described here for polygalloyl (3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoyl) esters of polyols as structural models for gallotannins, so that the structure-function relationships of this group of phytochemicals can be studied. The new synthesis consists of two steps, condensation of trimethoxybenzoyl chloride with a polyol and demethylation with anhydrous aluminium chloride/thiol. Compared to methods already reported, the new synthesis shortens the total reaction time by up to 30 times and gives high yields. Six polygalloyl esters of polyols were synthesised: di-galloyl-ethylene glycol (DGE), tri-galloyl-glycerol (TGG), tetra-galloyl-meso-erythritol (TGE), penta-galloyl-adonitol (PGA), ß-penta-galloyl-D-glucose (PGG) and hexa-galloyl-dulcitol (HGD). Amongst them, TGE, PGA and HGD are prepared for the first time. The polyphenols and
their permethylated derivatives were characterised using a combination of NMR and mass spectroscopic techniques. The effects of galloylation on the NMR properties of polyols are also discussed.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL :

ViscositéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Fatliquors are involved in leather making process to separate fibres of leather from each other and impart soft hand feeling. Fatliquors are chemically modifications of vegetable and animal oils. Castor oil is suitable as a basic raw material for the preparation of fatliquor due to hydroxyl functionality on ricinoleic acid. In this paper, castor ail based synthetic fatliquors were synthesised by two step processes. In a first step castor oil is condensed with maleic anhydride at varying mole ratio from 1 to 3. In the second step castor maleic adduct was sulphited with sodium metabisulphite at varying mole ratios from zero to 1.5. Solubility behaviour with viscosity changes were observed at différent mole ratios of reactants. Structural changes in synthetic fatliquors were studied by FTIR spectroscopy.
Fatliquoring properties at the stabilised fatliquors were comparatively evaluated on goat crust leather. Comparative analysis at leather softness, lear and tensile strengths, elongation at break, light fastness and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the fatliquored feathers were studied and comparatively better results were found in leather using the synthetic fatliquor which was synthesised at optimal conditions of castor ail to maleic anhydride mole ratio of 1:1.5 and further sulphitation of the castor maleic adduct with sodium metabisulphite at a mole ratio of 1.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Chemicals - Apparatus - Preparation of sulphited castor maleic condensate based synthetic fatliquor

Synthesized imidazolines were then quaternized by using dimethylsulfate as a quaternizing agent and isopropanol as a solvent, to produce cationic imidazolinium salts which were evaluated for yield and cationic content. The instrumental techniques, viz. FT-IR and 1H-NMR verified the formation of imidazolines and its subsequent quaternization. The surface active and performance properties of cationic imidazolines in terms of c.m.c., surface tension, dispersability, emulsion stability, softening, rewettability and detergency were also reported.

The chemical structure of the synthesized adduct was confirmed by FTIR analysis. Furthermore, such adduct was emulsified in water using stearic acid/triethanol amine system. Moreover, the emulsion was examined as a water-repellent as well as an antibacterial finish for cotton/polyester fabric. The results indicated that the emulsion treated fabric acquires water repellency, softness, stiffness, and antibacterial properties. In addition, the surface of the aforementioned treated fabric was characterized via scanning electron microscopy. Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this work, tris(oxiran-2-ylmethyl) benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate (TOTC) was synthesized by a new two-step method without using harmful epichlorohydrin and served as a curing agent for polyester powder coatings. The chemical structure of TOTC was determined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The curing behavior and the curing reaction kinetics of TOTC/polyester resin (NH-3307) system were studied by dynamic differential scanning calorimetry. The activation energy Ea was 71.75 kJ mol-1 according to Flynn–Wall–Ozawa method, and the curing reaction of TOTC/NH-3307 system was described by Friedman method. It was found that the curing reaction of TOTC/NH-3307 system was a two-parameter autocatalysis which followed the Å estάk–Berggren model. The nonisothermal curing reaction rate was simulated according to the Å estάk–Berggren model and the experimentally parameters. What is more, the thermogravimetric analysis results showed that the TOTC/NH-3307 system had good thermal stability with an initial decomposition temperature of 374.92°C. The TOTC/NH-3307 cured film exhibited excellent leveling performance by SEM. The results demonstrated that TOTC has efficient curing ability and huge market potential.
