NMP (N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone) has been used to synthesize waterborne polyurethane dispersions for many years. However, NMP has become the focus of health concerns in Europe, Japan and the US. Virtually NMP-free materials can be made using a traditional prepolymer process, allowing the production of low-VOC dispersions for interior wood coatings.
