For this purpose, five different coating formulations were created in which kaolin and precipitated calcium carbonate pigments (PCC) were mixed in different proportions. Coating formulations were applied in two layers on a base cardboard. Calendering of the coated base cartons was carried out using a laboratory calender. The prints were made on the calendered cardboards using mineral oil-based, vegetable (soybean) oil-based, and UV inks in a laboratory type offset printing machine. As a result of the study, it was determined that the coating of the base cardboard surface affects the optical and physical properties of the cardboard, the surface properties change according to the amount of pigment used in the formulations, and this change affects the printing quality. In the study, the best printing results in terms of printing quality were obtained with the use of UV ink. Mineral oil-based and vegetable (soybean) oil-based ink were compared in terms of printing quality, and since the values obtained are close to each other, it can be said that vegetable oil-based inks can be preferred instead of mineral oil-based ink, and more environmentally friendly sustainable productions can be realized. It has always provided better results in terms of surface smoothness and printability in coated formulations where the kaolin ratio is increased. MMT clay was rendered organophilic by a styryl/oil functionalized intercalant which is compatible with the two matrices and able to participate in the polymerization/crosslinking reaction. The presence of styryl group in the intercalant is also thought to be an original solution to the drawback mentioned in the literature arising from higher amount of small styrene monomer molecules in the clay galleries than larger AESO molecules at high clay loadings. The current design of the intercalant is expected to allow polymer molecules grown from both AESO and styrene monomers inside the clay galleries and also from edges/surfaces of the silicate layers. In this study, a special attention was paid to the enhancement of both thermal and mechanical properties of AESO-based nanocomposites via usage of the compatible and reactive intercalant for MMT modification. The resultant nanocomposites were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The effect of increased nanoclay loading in thermal and mechanical properties was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The nanocomposite materials exhibited improved thermal stability and dynamic mechanical properties as compared to neat polymer. The nanocomposite with exfoliation dominant structural morphology showed the highest storage modulus around Tg which is about 480% higher than that of neat AESOPS, even with a clay content as low as 3 wt%.

Vitamine EIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Leather made with soybean phospholipid fatliquors is prone to problems such as yellowing, elevated hexavalent chromium content, and undesirable odor. In this study, the aforementioned typical defects of soybean phospholipid fatliquors were investigated in respect to the main components, the antioxidants and the unsaturation degree of the natural soybean phospholipid. The results showed that the oxidation of soybean phospholipid is the primary source for its yellowing, elevated hexavalent chromium content, and undesirable odor. The volatile aldehydes produced by lipid oxidative rancidity are the main components of the undesirable odor. The purification of natural soybean phospholipid through removing the non-phospholipid components cannot solve the problems caused by oxidation of phospholipid. Furthermore, as a typical natural antioxidant existing in natural soybean phospholipid, tocopherols can restrain the oxidation of phospholipid to a certain degree, however, the dissolving out and destruction of tocopherols at high temperature in the phospholipid purification process can lead to more obviously oxidation of phospholipids. Additionally, the oxidation defects of phospholipid cannot be completely resolved by adding extra tocopherols, even at high dosages. The research finds that the defects of soybean phospholipid fatliquors can be thoroughly solved by increasing the saturation degree of lipid through addition reaction, the suggested iodine value of phospholipid products is lower than 20 g I2/100 g.

TriméthylolpropaneIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : While the chemistry of anti corrosive pigments is well understood, the binder system is still a wide area to explore with. Alkyd system by virtue of their unique attributes including flexibility, Iow surface tension, Iow cost etc has therefore been the cynosure of all research activities. This study has been done with alkyd resins of three different fatty acids namely Soyabean oil fatty acid (SOFA), dehydrated castor oil fatty acid (DCOFA) and Linseed all fatty acid (LOFA). Glycerol, trimethylol propane and pentaerythritol are the three polyhydric alcohols which have been included in synthesising the alkyds. The efficiency in terms of resistance against corrosion have been evaluated without using the anticorrosive pigments in the formulation in order to understand the role of individual alkyd system.
