These approaches - single-step preforming and multi-step preforming - aim at manufacturing complex preforms quickly, efficiently and with a high degree of automation. In this paper, the two approaches are described and the first results of the research project are presented. Note de contenu : - Textile preforming technologies

The NCF process allows the designer to arrange a set of precisely pre-oriented plies in a stack sequence that meets the structural criteria for the composite part. NC2 (Non Crimp 2nd Generation) technology is an enhanced NCF technology recently developed by Hexcel. Note de contenu : - NCF technology

The first one is the use of a chemical binder on the reinforcement material to enable thermoforming of multiple layers. The second one involves sewing or stitching the materials together to produce a 2-D or 3-D shape. The techniques are selected depending on the requirements of the application.
