Many studies have been carried out on assemblies made with two-dimensional fabrics Even after optimisation, these assemblies do not meet the requirements for severe stresses from blast effect failing too easily due to delamination between two plies of 2D fabric. The present study deals with two aspects: 1) optimising the material properties of textile preform assemblies for shipbuilding applications through the use of stitched solutions for better delamination resistance; and 2) developing a numerical model based on cohesive zone mechanics that is capable of describing the deiamination process. The study was carried out in quasi-static conditions and the model implemented in the form of a subroutine within an implicit finite element code. Note de contenu : - Experimental study

Because of global competition and the lack of natural resources, companies in the fishing sector are obliged to develop technological R&D programmes to improve their competitiveness. Naval construction would be well-advised to incorporate technological advances from the production sector, especially in terms of materials and processes. Note de contenu : - Concept development

Titre : Composites improve boat- building Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Bob Schartow, Auteur Année de publication : 2005 Article en page(s) : p. 41-42 Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Préforme 'Construction navale' Application 'Propriété mécanique' Fabrication Stratifié 'Matériau renforcé fibre' Polymère 'Tissu textile' fibre tridirectionnelle' Tissage composite' Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Boat building is becoming increasingly complex. Builders must navigate the sometime treacherous waters between market demands and government regulation. At the same time, customers are becoming more demanding and knowledgeable. More than ever before, these external drivers are requiring builders and designers to explore new materials and processes. An important aspect in material selection for boat builders is process flexibility, meaning using a material that works well in the many processes that they use. With the recent advances in 3D weaving technology, thick 3D woven materials are finding their way into more commercial applications. Note de contenu : - Weight and cost savings
