The production of such preforms is based, for example, on the sewing, cutting and assembling of flat textiles. In the past, the sewing yarn itself has been an important limitation of this production technique. For this reason, a pure carbon-fibre sewing yarn has been developed that combines excellent processing behaviour and mechanical performance with a reasonable compromise between price, performance and availability. Titre : Composites improve boat- building Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Bob Schartow, Auteur Année de publication : 2005 Article en page(s) : p. 41-42 Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Préforme 'Construction navale' Application 'Propriété mécanique' Fabrication Stratifié 'Matériau renforcé fibre' Polymère 'Tissu textile' fibre tridirectionnelle' Tissage composite' Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Boat building is becoming increasingly complex. Builders must navigate the sometime treacherous waters between market demands and government regulation. At the same time, customers are becoming more demanding and knowledgeable. More than ever before, these external drivers are requiring builders and designers to explore new materials and processes. An important aspect in material selection for boat builders is process flexibility, meaning using a material that works well in the many processes that they use. With the recent advances in 3D weaving technology, thick 3D woven materials are finding their way into more commercial applications. Note de contenu : - Weight and cost savings

With the increasing similarity of technical capabilities, interest has begun to focus more and more on design. This means that a product must not only function as expected, but also satisfy the increasing customer expectations regarding form, surface finish and feel. The first one is the use of a chemical binder on the reinforcement material to enable thermoforming of multiple layers. The second one involves sewing or stitching the materials together to produce a 2-D or 3-D shape. The techniques are selected depending on the requirements of the application.
