Octadecyl fatty alcohol sulfate C18-FAS is known for its strong washing performance, however it has the disadvantages of high Krafft point and its long dissolution rate. We demonstrate the factors that affect dissolution rates of FAS-surfactants, and how one can vary these factors in order to achieve particular dissolution rate. In this study, we have used a reproducible method for determining the rate of dissolution of anionic surfactants tablet and the effect of, temperature, hardness of FAS-tablets, stirring rate, FAS chain length, mixing with other surfactants and additives on the rate of dissolution of FAS have been studied. Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Surfactant Sulfoxidation Φ-sulfo fatty methyl ester sulfonate Index. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Phi-Sulfo Fatty Methyl Esters sulfonates (phi-MES) were obtained via sulfoxidation of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) with SO2, O2, and ultraviolet light of appropriate wavelength. Expectedly, these products may be used as linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) and alkyl ether sulfate (AES) partners, either in heavy-duty or in hand dishwashing liquids. Phi-MES are new anionic surfactants that can be regarded as potential components for detergent formulations and body care products as well. In this work we summarize the most relevant results of our research started fifteen years ago, on the synthesis, separation and analysis of phi-sulfo fatty methyl ester sulfonates known as phi-MES, and we update our last findings. We have to point out that we are for the time being, the only research group in the world to have published our research on phi-MES. This paper describes the optimum batch conditions for the sulfoxidation of FAME and a reaction mechanism is proposed. The paper depicts an improved workup for the separation of reaction products from non reacted methyl ester and the GC-MS analysis of phi-sulfo fatty methyl ester sulfonate is shown. Finally, an interpretation of conversion and selectivity of sulfoxydation reaction is given. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=8065

Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Fatty acid methyl esters FAMEE Oxyetylenation Hydrolysis Index. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Oxyethylenated fatty acid methyl esters are considered to be a promising alternative to oxyethylenated fatty alcohols widely used in laundry detergent productions. Oxyethylenated fatty acid methyl esters display propensity to hydrolysis in alkaline washing solutions, which might affect the washing process. The hydrolysis of oxyethylenated fatty acid methyl esters was found to be innocuous towards the washing process since only 10% of the overall amount was hydrolyzed at 60°C, pH = 12 in 1 hour. The cmc depends on a degree of oxyethylenation. The cmc of methyl ester and ethyl ester bearing 10 oxyethylene groups is 0.8 mmol · L–1. The cmc of esters bearing 20 oxyethylene groups is 1.2 mmol · L–1. The foaming properties of oxyethylenated methyl esters bearing between 10 and 20 oxyethylene groups is constant. In case of oxyethylenated ethyl esters the foaming was increasing with the number of oxyethylene groups. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3037

Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : Sodium salts fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sulfonate isethionate Temperature tolerance Salt Interfacial tension Index. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Sodium salts of fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether sulfonates with different length of hydrophobic chain (CnE3SO3, n = 14, 16, 18) were synthesized from sodium isethionate, then the structure was verified by IR. The temperature resistance, calcium-tolerant stability and salt tolerance were evaluated by pyrogenetic decomposition, phase separation and middle phase emulsion respectively. In addition the mixture of CnE3SO3 and heavy alkylbenzene sulfonate (HABS) was studied. The results showed that : (1) CnE3SO3 was very stable at 150°C especially in neutral, weak acid and weak alkaline conditions ; (2) CnE3SO3 performed a good salt tolerance and have a rank of C18E3SO3 > C16 E3SO3 > C14E3SO3 ; (3) the calcium-tolerant stability of CnE3SO3 reached 8700 mg/L, 9500 mg/L and 10000 mg/L respectively ; (4) CnE3SO3 was very good for improving the salt tolerance of mixture of CnE3SO3 and HABS. C18E3SO3 was the best in mixtures of Daqing crude oil/water containing C18E3SO3 and HABS in a ratio of omega C18E3SO3):omega(HABS) = 3:7 and showed the strongest synergistic effect. The interfacial tension in the system Daqing crude oil/water reached a minimum in the order of 10–3 mN/m and was always below 10–2 mN/m for cNaCl from 0 to 15000 mg/L.
