The nature of the interactions between dyes and surfactants is one of the basic piece of information for understanding the process of dyeing and finishing of textile material. The role of attractive interactions between the hydrocarbon tails and repulsive interactions between the surfactant head groups on the micellar association process have been studied. The presented work is oriented on the determination of the critical micelle concentration and molar conductance, in aqueous solution of cationic surfactant cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide by using the electric conductivity method. From conductivity data parameters for dyes – surfactant interaction such as micellar ionization degree α, counter ion binding and free energy of micellization have been calculated. On the basis of results it is clear that critical micelle concentration depends on the nature of ionic group and concentration of counter ion in solution. Critical micelle concentrations (CMC) were estimated from the dependence of the specific conductivity on molarity of the surfactants. It was determined that the temperature dependence of CMC is U-shaped with a minimum shifting toward higher temperatures with decreasing chain length of the alkyl group. Quantities characterizing behaviors of surfactants below and above CMC were calculated and compared from conductivity measurements. Measured and calculated values of studied compounds were also compared with results of many other authors. The paper has the form of a minireview. It is a comparison of the presented experimental data of alkyltrimethylammonium bromides (C6– C18) with earlier works reported. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Methods

The polymeric dispersants chosen were polyacrylic acid and polyacrylamide homo- and copolymers modified with hydroxyl and/or carboxylate groups. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) were used to assess the distribution of the titania pigment particles in the surface and bulk, respectively of the paint films, which was then compared to the gloss and surface roughness of these films. In the absence of dispersant, the pigment distribution in the paint film was not uniform and relatively large pigment aggregates appeared at the surface, resulting in a rough surface and low gloss value. All dispersants both decreased surface roughness and increased the gloss of the dry paint film, with the dispersant type considerably enhancing the pigment dispersion in the dry paint film, in agreement with results obtained in aqueous pigment suspensions. In the presence of polyacrylamide homopolymer, the paint gloss increased slightly and further increased with the hydroxyl-modified polyacrylamide copolymer. The paint gloss was highest in the presence of polyacrylic acid or carboxylate/hydroxyl-modified polyacrylamide.
