(Wikipedia)

However, there are still many performance limitations from restricted availability of effective renewable monomers and oligomers. This work demonstrates the improvement of the properties of high biobased content PUD and derived coating by introducing a photo-reversibly crosslinkable coumarin as chain extender within the structure. The effect of partial substitution of 1,3-propanediol biobased by a di-hydroxy photo-reactive cyclic coumarin on the particle size and the stability was analyzed by dynamic light scattering (DLS) and multiple light scattering (MLS). The lateral and more rigid structure of coumarin involved a moderated increment in particle size without significant effect on the dispersion stability for at least 45 days. Associated improvement in hardness and toughness was also demonstrated by tensile test, pendulum hardness, pencil hardness and scratch resistance test. Furthermore, controlled UV irradiation of the polyurethane gave rise to a mechanical performance adjustment from reversible photo-crosslinking and scission of the coumarin molecules within the macromolecular structure. A 70% dimerization degree of the coumarin within the polyurethane film by UV light provided a partially reversible threefold higher tensile strength than that of the original biobased formulation as an effective tool to tune the response of biobased polyurethanes. Thiol–ene click reaction can overcome the shortcomings of common UV curing techniques. In this paper, the vinyl-terminated hyperbranched polyester (VTDP) was incorporated into the curing system of di-ene (A2) and trithiol (B3). Trithiols, including 1,3,5-tris(2-hydroxyethyl)isocyanurate tris(3-mercaptopropionate) (THMP) and trimethylolpropane tris(3-mercaptopropionate) (TMMP), were synthesized by an esterification between 3-mercaptopropionic acid and 1,3,5-tris(2-hydroxyethyl) isocyanurate, and tri(hydroxymethyl)propane, respectively. The UV-initiated thiol–ene click reaction between 1,4-butanediol diacrylate (BDDA) and trithiols (TMMP and THMP) was researched by adjusting different VTDP content. FTIR spectral analysis showed that the thiol–ene reactions proceeded smoothly and the conversion degree of acrylic groups was higher than that of thiol groups. The pencil hardness and abrasion resistance of the cured film increased first and then decreased with the increase in VTDP content, but both their flexibility and adhesion had little change. Their glass transition temperatures increased slightly with the increase in VTDP content. THMP has better positive effect than TMMP on the pencil hardness, abrasion resistance and thermal performance of the cured film. The system selected for this work was a two-pack polyurethane acrylate with polyester polyol as the main component and urethane monoacrylate (UMA) as hardener. The polyester polyol was synthesized in a way to provide a final film coating containing both a suitable flexibility and high surface hardness. The thermal and photochemical curing behavior of the resin was studied via the chemorheology technique and the real-time FTIR. The Boltzmann sigmoidal model was implemented and well-fitted to the data obtained from the chemorheology measurements. The comparison between two reactive diluents, butanediol diacrylate (BDDA) and trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA) showed that BDDA reacts faster than TMPTA in the thermal curing condition. Nevertheless, the network buildup is stronger when TMPTA is used. The photopolymerization is also faster for the case of TMPTA. However, its final double bond conversion is restricted to a lower amount due to steric hindrance and higher viscosity of the system. TannageIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Isophorone diamine (IPDA) and epichlorohydrin (ECH) were used to fabricate the epoxy tanning agents, and polyalcohol compounds (glycerol, polyethylene glycol, ethylene glycol) were employed to introduce the ether bonds into the epoxy tanning agents to improve their compatibility with water. The prepared epoxy tanning agents were named IGE, IPE and IEE for the introduction of glycerol, polyethylene glycol and ethylene glycol, respectively. FT-IR and 1H NMR analysis indicated that epoxy groups, ether bonds and hexatomic rings were successfully introduced into IGE, IPE and IEE. The tanning performances of the epoxy tanning agents were further evaluated in water, ethanol-50 (50% of ethanol in water) and ethanol-95 (95% of ethanol in water) medium, which suggested that ethanol-50 was the most favorable one for the epoxy tanning agents. The IGE tanned leather exhibited the highest shrinkage temperature of 83ºC in ethanol-50 due to its low viscosity, high epoxy value and wide molecular dispersion. Morphology observation indicated that the IGE tanned leather exhibited better dispersion of fiber network than that of IPE and IEE tanned leathers. These results illustrated that IGE was an appropriate tanning agent in water-ethanol medium, which could be considered as a candidate for the organic tanning agents.
