Au croisement de l'épigénétique et de la génomique, il est désormais possible de prédire quelle sera l'évolution de la peau. Par une simple analyse ADN via un test salivaire, on peut connaître ses prédispositions génétiques. On pourra par exemple savoir à l'avance quand le collagène de la peau va commencer à se dégrader. Il sera ainsi possible de personnaliser très finement et plus efficacement un soin. Aux USA, les tests génétiques généalogiques capitalisés en bases de données peuvent être interrogés pour les soins de peaux. Quant à la technologie blockchain, elle permet enfin de garantir confidentialité et traçabilité des données. Entre big data et intelligence artificielle, plus rien ne semble impossible.
Loin d'être réservée aux « gourous » de la technologie, la prévention a aussi ses adeptes dans le courant des cosmétiques naturels. Portée par plus de 5000 ans d'histoire, l'Ayurvéda, ou science de la vie indienne vise à être en harmonie avec la nature. Cette approche holistique prend en compte le régime alimentaire, la détoxification, le yoga, la méditation ... On est passé d'une société agricole à une société digitale et urbaine ultra connectée. Ces mutations impliquent un stress accru et une modification de l'environnement. En réponse à cela, le besoin se fait sentir de se reconnecter à la terre et de «cultiver son jardin ».
Les actifs sont plus que jamais naturels. On sort des ingrédients exotiques pour devenir plus local. Quoi de plus rassurant que d'utiliser ce qu'on connait et qui nous fait du bien au quotidien. Le rayon fruits et légumes arrive dans les actifs cosmétiques : on trouve des extraits de légumes, de fruits, de céréales ou de graines et leur effet est facile à comprendre pour les consommateurs car on est en terrain connu.
On s'intéresse également aux supers ingrédients, extrémophiles, qui résistent aux environnements les plus hostiles ou qui ont survécu à des millions d'années d'évolution de notre environnement tels que les mousses qui peuvent résister à la dessication ou à l'humidité et qui sont partout, même en ville !
Enfin, on cherche à se reconnecter aux peuplades animistes pour retrouver du sens. En étudiant leur peau, on constate que notre mode de vie aseptisé et coupé de la nature a nui à la diversité bactérienne de notre peau la rendant ainsi plus fragile.
