Diffusion of coloured silica nanoparticles into hair fibres has been investigated; silica nanoparticles do not penetrate at all, or do so only sparingly, into the structure of Caucasian virgin hair. However, coloured silica nanoparticles diffused readily into bleached hair fibres. Scanning electron microscopy showed that coloured silica nanoparticles were present mainly in the outer regions of the hair structure (the inner layers of the cuticle and the outer region of the cortex). It was found that the silica nanoparticles were physically entrapped in the hair fibres and results showed a good shampoo fastness to washing. To better understand the interplay of forces near this critical temperature, cryogenic scanning electron microscopy (cryoSEM) was used to track the latex particle deformation and water migration in coatings dried at temperatures just above and below the MFFT. Although the latex particles completely coalesced at both temperatures by the end of the drying process, it was discovered that particle deformation during the early drying stages was drastically different. Below the MFFT, cracks initiated just as menisci began to recede into the packing of consolidated particles, whereas above the MFFT, partial particle deformation occurred before menisci entered the coating and cracks were not observed. The spacing between cracks measured in coatings dried at varying temperatures decreased with decreasing drying temperature near the MFFT, whereas it was independent of temperature below a critical temperature. Finally, the addition of small amounts of silica aggregates was found to lessen the cracking of latex coatings near the MFFT without adversely affecting their optical clarity. Various dispersion techniques were studied to prevent the aggregation of primary nanoparticles in the polyol mixture. The nanoparticles dispersion was studied by OM and SEM. Polyols containing nanoparticles were mixed with the suitable amount of isocyanate to obtain polyurethane water-based coatings.
The resultant polyurethane nanocomposite was characterised according to abrasion resistance (ASTM D 4060) and QUV resistance (ASTM D 4587). Abrasion resistance was improved by adding different percentages of nanosilica nanoparticles but no improvement was obtained regarding UV resistance. Nano-zinc oxide nanoparticles contribution enhanced neither abrasion nor UV resistance, maybe due to catalytic reaction of nano-ZnO over PUR mains.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Materials - Mixing systems

ViscoélasticitéIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The extrusion process of silica rubber through a chemical reaction is unstable, and the flow mechanism in the extruder is still unclear. In this study, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) has been chosen as the matrix and the reinforcing effects of two different kinds of fillers, silica and titanium dioxide, have been investigated on SBR. Additionally, the effect of the properties of the SBR/filler composites on extrudate swelling has been examined. The reinforcing effect of the filler was confirmed by dynamic viscoelasticity, and the swell ratio was measured using a capillary rheometer. The results suggest that titanium dioxide has no reinforcing effect, as there is no interaction between titanium dioxide and the molecular structure of SBR. In contrast, there was a significant interaction between silica and SBR. It was found that the bound rubber, which is an SBR gel with restricted molecular chains, causes a reduction in the swell ratio, and this reduction effect is larger than that caused by filling the filler in the matrix. Furthermore, it was observed that this bound rubber deforms during flow and affects the extrudate swell phenomenon.
Si(OCH2CH3)4 + 2 H2O → SiO2 + 4 CH3CH2OH.

Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The colour of denim fabric, which has a large share in the textile market, is an important parameter together with comfort properties during usage. While some users prefer the colour of denim fabrics to have different colours as they use them, others want to be provided with colour stability of the fabrics during use. In this study, the effect of a sol-gel technique on indigo dyed denim fabrics was investigated. The aim was to reduce the colour change that occurs in denim fabrics as a result of external factors by using silica-based coatings. The sols were prepared by using TEOS (tetraethylortosilicate) and different volumes of GPTS ((3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane) as precursors in acidic and alkaline conditions. Synthetic indigo dyed cotton denim fabrics were treated with the sols by applying the pad-dry-cure method. It was determined that the colour strength of the treated samples increased and the fabrics treated with the sols prepared in alkaline condition became darker compared to the sols in acidic condition. It is seen that the use of crosslinkers while preparing the sol could improve the rubbing and washing fastness of commercial denim samples.
