This saves cost and can produce products with improved properties.
Light filler materials are always applied when it is required to reduce the weight of coatings.
In addition, certain light fillers can facilitate the application, shorten drying times, vary the haptics of coated surfaces and cause some matting effect. On the other side, these light fillers are very dusty and difficult to wet and disperse. Its extremely low specific weight and the high specific surface - which in extreme cases may exceed 100 000 m2/kg - use of conventional dispersing methods such as dissolvers or stirrers very often result in an ordeal or becomes a game of pure chance.
A special powder wetting and dispersing machine may eliminate this problem by dust and loss free handling of these light filler materials. the combination of a powder wetting machine and light filler materials provides a very high potential of rationalising as well as the possibility to produce systems with improved properties.Note de contenu : - Powder versus liquid

PigmentsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The effectiveness of the dispersion operation is directly related to the ability of given vehicle to wet out the pigment particle agglomerates, to spread out over the particle surfaces, and finally to effect a lasting particle separation. The success of this operation is closely tied in with the ability of the grinding equipment to work in harmony with the grinding vehicle by expeditiously breaking up and exposing particle surfaces to the vehicle wetting and dispersing action.
The breakup of particle agglomerates can be accomplished by either smearing or smashing types of dispersion equipment. So the classification of paint and ink grinding equipment can be done into smearer or smasher categories or hybrid equipment (mixture of these two).
For the optimum breakup of particle clusters, smashers work most effectively when unhindered by viscous resistance, whereas smearers (conversely) must encounter strong viscous resistance to be effective at alI.
Advanced dispersion technology for pigment dispersion that is different from all other techniques is now available. This technology enables enormous reductions in production costs and process times. Additional effects are a higher degree of dispersion, improved quality and raw material savings.
Not only effective dispersion but the primary contributor to plant quality and safety is the design and selection of equipment. When operating at an industrial scale, the dangers associated with dispersion equipment are many. While selecting dispersion equipments, safety should be most important parameter.
In this review paper, seven classes of conventional grinding (dispersion) equipments are discussed. Two of them essentially smearer type (three-roll mill, high-speed stone mills), and one is smasher type mill (high-speed impingement mill). The remaining are hybrid mills that provide both smashing and smearing activity in varying degrees to accomplish pigment dispersion. It also covers advanced dispersion technology mills and plant safety related to dispersion equipments.Note de contenu : - What is dispersion ?

VernisIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Auto refinish coating market is moving towards Polyurethane based products because of its superior performance, finish, durability, and exhaustive shade choices. Auto refinishing demands different qualities from paint. An auto finish has to be soft enough to allow the polishing out of dust and minor imperfections. Polyurethane proved right choice for this need.
Covestro provides a wide range of solvent-borne and waterborne systems that achieve the processing standards needed for refinish coatings as well as the high-quality performance to match factory-applied coatings. With increasing environmental awareness and stricter legislations, coating manufacturers have started investing in waterborne, high sol ids technology. Solvent-reduced high-sol id polyurethane coatings systems known as 'Polyaspartics' offer the lowest possible solvent content and the fastest curing.
Covestro offers water-borne polyols and polyisocyanates for clear coat and basecoat formulations that fulfill the highest standards for car refinish coatings and help reduce the solvent content of coating formulations.Note de contenu : - RISE OF POLYURETHANES IN CAR REFINISH COATINGS MARKET

Pigments nacrésIndex. décimale : 667.2 Colorants et pigments Résumé : Effect pigments display a wide range of properties such as colour-travel, reflect or refract light. When substrate used are flat regular, laminar in shape then the effect pigments are mirror type. Basic lead carbonate and bismuth oxy chloride fall under this category. Basic Lead carbonate pigment is obtained by passing carbon dioxide gas in lead acetate solution having luster and brilliance that equals or excels. These pigments are used in textile, plastics, paints, artificial pearls. Lead based pearlescent pigments are having excellent pearlescent effect but considered to be toxic, so banned in most places. Bismuth Oxy chloride (BiOCI) crystals are flat, regular, octahedral in structure. These pigments look smooth microscopic compared to mica coated pearl. Despite higher refractive index (2.15) than basic Lead carbonate, bismuth oxy chloride does not show the brilliance of basic lead carbonate due to its inferior crystal forms. BiOCI is prepared reacting bismuth nitrate in presence of chloride ions with sodium hydroxide. The crystal quality can be adjusted by the chosen reaction parameters, such as bismuth salt concentration, temperature, pH-value, reactor geometry, and addition of surfactants. BiOCI is used in plastics, paints, inks, textiles artificial jewelry, and automotive coatings. The major limitation would be the higher cost and its higher density that makes it settli n application media. Note de contenu : - Basic lead carbonate based pearlescent pigments

Métaux non ferreuxIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Corrosion in non ferrous metals can be often seen in day to day life, but it is not as serious as the corrosion in ferrous metals. Some of the metals form a protective layer on corrosion. Examples of corrosion in non ferrous metals are tarnishing of silver in which a black layer is formed on the silver surface. Formation of green layer on copper surface can also be seen. These types of corrosion take place because of water and other environmental effects. in this paper we will discuss about the corrosion of titanium, lead and silver. Titanium is a highly corrosion resistant metal but few forms of corrosion in it have been discussed. In the next part we will discuss about corrosion of aluminium, zinc, copper etc. Note de contenu : - INTRODUCTION : Corrosion of Titanium - Chlorine and Chlorine Chemicals - Resistance to fresh water
