TaninsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The natural exposure and water absorption tests carried out within European Standard EN927 use clear, knot-free wood in order to minimise variability in the results. However, knots are common in practice in many coated timber components, and it is widely acknowledged that the performance of paints can be compromised over knots or timbers that possess a high tannin content. As part of the European Standard for evaluating the performance of coatings on wood, a validated method is required for evaluating the discoloration due to tannin staining and resin exudation from knots. CEN/TC139 Working Group 2 has been charged with identifying a reliable method of testing for tannin stain resistance and producing a standard; identified as EN927-7 'Resistance to tannin staining'. This paper presents results from two laboratories on an evaluation of a Trätek standard procedure. Results of discoloration are presented for panels containing knots that have been coated with one of two test coatings. Reflectance spectrometry and digital imaging-based methods of evaluating discoloration were used and an interpretation of the comparability of the techniques is provided. The suitability of the method for promoting to WG2 as a standard is presented on the basis of these results. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : QUV with spray - QUV without spray - Window exposure

The water permeability of the coatings, expressed as water absorption value, was measured by a method similar to the method that now is proposed as a European standard for the assessment of liquid water permeability. During artificial weathering, the samples were measured for a water absorption value, thus showing the change in water permeability as a function of weathering. The study has shown that an excess of surfactants in the alkyd emulsions has a negative effect on the coating's ability to exclude water from the test samples. A waterborne acrylic paint based on a dispersion of larger particle size (0.4 µm) showed a poor ability to exclude water compared to a similar paint based on smaller dispersion particles (0.1 µm). The alkyd emulsion paints, as single coats, showed high water absorption values compared to solventborne paints and acrylic paints. StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In this study, the statistical distribution of the reference service life of exterior wood coatings has been calculated for two coating systems: an alkyd oil and a solvent-borne alkyd (stain). The estimated service life has been evaluated, based on exposure tests and on the assessment of experts for another three coating systems (namely a solvent-borne alkyd coating, a water-borne acrylic coating, and a water-borne acrylic stain). It has been shown that the combination of a standard procedure for the measurement of cracking and statistical tools, such as reliability-based methodologies, for predicting the service life of coating systems gives more information regarding reference service life data than purely by a measurement of cracking. Langues : Américain (ame) Tags : Bois Protection Extérieur Matériau revêtement Peinture Vernis Propriété physique Feuil Perméabilité eau Essai Norme CEN Absorption vieillissement accéléré Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The proposed European standard method for the assessment of liquid water permeability, prEN 927-5, gives significant differences in water absorption values for different types of paints on wood. The proposed limits in the performance standard for the water absorption values for coatings to be used in different types of construction seem to be at acceptable levels. There is a good correlation between the level of water absorption and outdoor experience of the performance of the paints. Aging can drastically influence the water protection properties of the coating. Some sort of aging of the samples is needed in the assessment of the water absorption properties of coatings. An artificial aging procedure is proposed in this paper. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5722
