Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Microbial activity on leather during its storage and use is one of major problems in the leather industry. Micro-organisms cause damage which costs millions of dollars to the global leather industry. Hide and skin suppliers and tanners are aware of the necessity to use antimicrobial products to protect their precious raw material. The control of bacteria and fungi growth is important to prevent and minimize the generation of mal odours and some skin problems as weII. Recently, the leather industry has been exploring the benefits of remarkable properties of nanoparticles with antimicrobial properties.
In this antimicrobial effects of nano silver, nano silver-doped titanium dioxide and silicon dioxide, nano-size silicon dioxide and zirconium oxide on leather material are presented.Note de contenu : - Nanosilver and its antimicrobial activity on leather

Experiments with 1%, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5% L-ascorbic acid addition were performed on the finishing layer of the finishing application. L-ascorbic acid was not added to the control group and processed according to the standard method. After these processes, color measurement analyzes were performed on Konica Minolta CM 3600d spectrophotometer. In order to investigate the effects of L-ascorbic acid on other performance properties of leather, light fastness test according to TS 1008 EN ISO 105-B02 (2001 TS EN ISO 11640 2001) and dry rub fastness test according to standard method were performed. The results of the study were statistically evaluated according to the NCSS (Number Cruncher Statistical System) method. As a result of the research, it was observed that L-ascorbic acid gave a pearly pink color to the leathers. It was found that the dry rubbing fastness of the leathers treated with L-ascorbic acid improved. In the light fastness tests, the results of the experimental group leathers were recorded better by the blue scale. Sels de sodiumIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Biomass material is a kind of environmental protection material, which can be applied to reduce pollution in the leather industry. In this research, biomass raw materials (waste rice stalks) were solid fermented by inoculating with appropriate strains to produce itaconic acid products. The itaconic acid products and traditional leather chemicals were used respectively in leather processing. Two types of leather were tested, namely upper leather and split leather. The fullness and thickness of the finished leathers, also the COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and SS (suspended solids) of the residual liquids were tested and compared. The results show that the itaconic acid products could improve the fullness of the finished leather and more importantly could reduce the pollutants of the residual liquids thus enhancing environmental benefits. The de-chroming technology of leather chromium waste was proposed in our previous work.1 In this work, condensation adhesives based on urea-formaldehyde and phenol-formaldehyde were modified with protein hydrolysates. It is known that collagen hydrolysate of chrome-tanned leather waste added to dimethylol urea clearly limits formation of relatively unstable oxy-methylene bridges which may be regarded as potential source of formaldehyde emissions. The aim of this study was to verify the change of glue joint properties in following ways: influence of collagen hydrolysate on shear strength properties of glued joints under action of water and high humid conditions; increasing the water-resistance of glued materials, development of adhesive mixtures suitable for gluing of wood at higher moisture content, influence of collagen hydrolysate on lowering the formaldehyde emissions from wood based panels. The intended sources of protein hydrolysates were solid waste from leather production (e.g. chromium shavings and chippings, hypodermic and adipose ligament, leather chippings, gelatin production and food packing). These various analytical investigations of this study confirmed significant reduction of formaldehyde emission from wood based panels, increased water-resistance of glued materials, and conforming shear strength properties of glued joints. Application of collagen from de-chromed waste allows improvement of ecologic and economic parameters of bonding processes in the woodworking industry (e.g. eliminating of harmful effects on the environment and lowering of costs at keeping required quality).
On distingue trois types.

Stabilité hydrothermaleIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : An alternative to the normal dyeing route to achieving colour in leather is to exploit the chemistry of creating the natural skin and hair pigments, melanins. 1,8-dihydroxynaphthalene and other dihydroxynaphthalenes can be oxidised and polymerised to create pigment products by reactions catalysed by laccase, a polyphenol oxidase.
They not only create colour, but, if the reactions are conducted in the presence of collagen, the pigments are bound to the collagen by covalent bonds, which confer a tanning effect.Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURES : Materials - Dyeing experiments - Measurements of colour - Measurement of hydrothermal stability
