MuscLe musc est une matière naturelle animale entrant dans la composition des parfums ; il est extrait des glandes abdominales des cerfs porte-musc d'Asie centrale. D'autres espèces animales et végétales peuvent produire une substance qualifiée du nom de musc, notamment les Viverridae appelées civette, le rat musqué, l'érismature à barbillons, le canard musqué, le bœuf musqué.

Constitutional aspects of quinophthalone was studied and established by Methta, Eibner, Hofmann, Kuhn, Baer and others. They represent small and old but still very important range of methine colorants. They have a long history as dyes, mainly as disperse dyes, acid dyes and paper dyes.
