After application as thinned film, self stratifying coating does spontaneously form two coherent layers as base coat/clear coat, primer/top coat in one single operation. The necessary requirements for this type of coating have been discussed in detail, including compatibility between the resins, surface energies and other parameters. Stratification can be predicted from the extent of overlaping of solubility spheres using Hansen solubility parameters (HSP) and surface energies. Various factors like evaporation rate, viscosity, film thickness and curing rate effecting self stratifying coating have also been focused on. Very good stratification have been observed in epoxy/acrylic, epoxy vinylether copolymer and epoxy/floro ethelene in their unpigmented systems. Success have also been achieved to locate a protective pigment in the primer and subsequent clear over it. Good stratification were also formulated with the adhesion promote silane coated rutile, where protective pigment was located in the primer layer while rutile in top-coat. Reaction engineering for emulsion polymerization requires understanding of fluid dynamics and mixing, heat transfer, process monitoring, colloid science, microeconomics and the mechanisms and kinetics of the multiple chemical and physical reaction steps. Incorporating the developed knowledge in an integrated product process development effort would help to reduce costs, decrease time to market and increase product quality. Various types of reactors and their modification to satisfy the necessity of quality product have been reviewed in this paper. Objectively evaluating pearlescent colour and appearance and interpreting the results, however, is a complex process. The process is further complicated by the unique optical properties and variety of applications for pearlescent pigments, as well as the availability of various color measurement instruments. This article gives brief idea of optical properties and colorimetric aspect of pearl lustre pigment. Note de contenu : - OPTICAL PRINCIPLES OF VARIOUS PIGMENTS

Constitutional aspects of quinophthalone was studied and established by Methta, Eibner, Hofmann, Kuhn, Baer and others. They represent small and old but still very important range of methine colorants. They have a long history as dyes, mainly as disperse dyes, acid dyes and paper dyes.
