Index. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT)-based nanocomposites filled with 1 vol.% silicon dioxide nanoparticles (nano-SiO2) were prepared using a co-rotating twin-screw extruder and injection molding. The nanocomposites with various blending sequences were investigated using PLA-based and PBAT-based nanocomposite masterbatches. Morphology of the PLA/PBAT/SiO2 nanocomposites was examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and a focused ion beam (FIB) SEM. It is found that the nano-SiO2 locates in the original polymer phase, in which it is firstly incorporated in the masterbatch process, as well as at the interface between the two polymers. However, as the residence time in the extrusion process increases, the nanoparticles migrate from the original phase to the interface, governed by the thermodynamic driving force. The best optimization of mechanical properties is achieved by using the PBAT-based masterbatches with a one-step process or short residence time. The processing history, therefore, has a tremendous impact on the final properties of the resulting materials. The corrosion behavior of these coatings depends on the phase structure and morphology of the Zn–Fe deposits. In this work the effects of pulse plating variables such as current density, off-time, frequency and pulse modes on the morphology and phase structure of Zn–Fe deposits was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) analysis. The corrosion behavior of these coatings was measured by means of polarization curves and Neutral salt spray tests. It was shown that pulse reverse coatings exhibit excellent resistance to corrosion in comparison with normal pulse and direct current conditions. Tannage végétalIndex. décimale : 675.2 Préparation du cuir naturel. Tannage Résumé : Artificial acid rain was chosen to simulate the influences of gaseous pollutants on vegetable-tanned leather. The vegetable-tanned leather samples were soaked in the artificial acid rain for 0, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 days, at 50°C and 100% relative humidity conditions. Then, these samples were evaluated by various analytical methods. Micro hot table (MHT), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry (TG) were used to evaluate the influences of acid rain on thermal behaviours. Damage to mechanical properties were also analyzed by a standard method. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and optical microscopy were used to investigate the changes of structural and histological properties during ageing. With the extension of ageing time, thermal stability was gradually reduced to lower values, including shrinkage temperature, thermal denaturing temperature, associated enthalpy and temperature of maximum decomposition rate. ln addition, mechanical properties such as tensile strength, tear strength and elongation at break also gradually decreased. The FTIR results showed that, during the ageing process, the amide 1 and amide 11 bands of collagen were gradually shifted to lower numbers, indicating increasingly serious damage to the structure of the peptide chain corresponding to obvious fibril breakages which were also detected through optical microscopy.
It is generally accepted that the benefit of anisotropic nanofiller addition is strongly dependent on the state of the dispersion of these fillers in a polymer matrix. In this paper the influence of melt-compounding conditions on the dispersion of a needle-like clay, i. e. sepiolite, in poly(∊-caprolactone) (PCL) is investigated. The crystallisation behavior as well as the rheological and mechanical properties of PCL/sepiolite nanocomposites with filler contents up to 5 wt.% are studied. By changing the screw speed during melt-mixing in a micro-compounder, the state of dispersion was varied, with the higher speed leading to better dispersion and breakdown of the sepiolite agglomerates or bundles. Rheometry showed that better dispersed nanocomposites displayed an increase in viscosity due to network formation at slightly higher filler loadings. Likewise, better dispersed composites showed a modest increase in crystallisation temperature at low filler content, accompanied by a decrease in both nucleation efficiency and degree of crystallisation at higher loadings. Better dispersed nanocomposite systems also showed superior mechanical properties, particularly at higher filler loadings. However, overall the reinforcing efficiency of sepiolite in all nanocomposites was relatively low. This was mainly a consequence of the relatively low filler aspect ratio and the simultaneous breakup of sepiolite needles together with a breakdown of bundles during compounding. Using the NBBs approach and acid-catalyzed reactions of tetraethoxysilane and triethoxy(octyl)silane, different procedures were used for preparation of six sols. Besides three different ways of mixing of initial precursors, two temperatures with different reaction time were used. The films were prepared by dip-coating technique and treated at temperature of 170°C. The sols were characterized by method of dynamic light scattering. The surface of films was characterized by atomic force microscopy and sessile drop technique. The influence of sol preparation procedure and reaction conditions on particles size in sols as well as the properties of films surface, such as hydrophobicity, morphology and rms-roughness, was observed. The procedure of sol preparation markedly influences the surface morphology of prepared nanocomposite inorganic-organic films. The changes in the studied properties were mainly observed for films, which were deposited from sols prepared at boiling temperature of isopropyl alcohol.
