As a rule, 5 to 10% w/w in a formulation suffices to achieve these advantages without impairing the transparency, gloss, resistance in the condensation water test and adhesion of the coating. It is also content of the solventborne system which is advantageous in terms of VOC regulations.
The use of nanosilica particles therefore enables the abrasion resistance of solventborne, high-gloss, 2-pack PUR clearcoats to be significantly and sustainably improved without impairing other properties.Note de contenu : - Chemical description of silica-nanocomposites

Revêtement poudre -- AdditifsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The author discusses the use of hard minerals to enhance powder coating performance.
Powder coatings continue to expand their share of the industrial coatings market mainly because of their high performance combined with excellent economics. The application of powder coatings can be highly efficient as the oversprayed material can be collected and recycled back into the finishing process. This minimises waste streams, which allows powder's environmental profile to align well with both corporate and regulatory sustainability goals.
Experts forecast robust growth of powder coatings. Global sales of powder coatings in 2021 are estimated to be around US$12.5bn (€10.6bn) with a volume of approximately 5.5bn lbs. (2.5M tonnes). Growth is projected at 3.9 to 5.4% per annum for the next five years.
Abrasion resistance in powder coatings is an important property. Some powders are used to coat items that are subjected to extreme environments such as oil and gas transmission pipelines, whereas other powder coatings are used in decorative applications where appearance is critical. These decorative finishes must maintain their appearance after the handling of parts during assembly and everyday wear and tear.
Improving abrasion resistance is a sought-after goal of powder coating formulators, whether for functional or aesthetic purposes. The use of high hardness minerai fillers is considered one avenue to increase abrasion resistance in powder coatings. This study examines the effect that white fused alumine, nepheline syenite and silicon carbide have on the abrasion resistance of a common powder coating system based on polyester-HAA (hydroxy-alkyl amide) chemistry.Note de contenu : - WESTER MINERALIEN : Objective - Materials - Formulation platform - Processing conditions

TalcIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : Durability and resistance requirements of paints and coatings are constantly increasing, but at the same time paints need to be environment friendly and safe for consumers. Talc is a natural minerai with a theoretical formula of Mg3Si4010(OH)2. Talc is the second most used extender in paints and coatings worldwide (after calcium carbonate). It is hydrophobic, inert and non-toxic.
ELEMENTIS offers three different talc familles: FINNTALC, PLUSTALC and MICROTALC. They all are high quality pure talc grades with lamellar particle form. FINNTALC grades are based on Finnish talc ore and they are purified by a flotation process that ensures high and constant product quality. PLUSTALC and MICROTALC grades are based on high quality, high whiteness talc ore and are targeted towards paints where super high whiteness is needed.
FINNTALC grades give well-balanced optical paint properties with excellent wet-scrub and stain resistance, and are efficient matting agents. The platy structure improves mud-cracking resistance and adhesion, and barrier properties. FINNTALC grades are also preferred extenders for paints using tinting systems, due to robust colour consistency.Note de contenu : - Fig. 1 : Wet-scrub resistance of high PVC paint

Vinyle sulfonate de sodiumIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In order to design a low VOC VeoVa based latex with a high scrub resistance, the latex needs preferably to be a terpolymer stabilised by surfactant with functional sulphonate based monomer and silane based monomer. Note that some low amount of colloid is also possible as long as it does not increase significantly the particle size of the latex. Moreover, the latex should be preferably formulated with unsaturated non-ionic surfactant and therefore it needs to be prepared with a monomer pre-emulsion using a minimum of anionic surfactant. The temperature of polymerisation should be as low as possible.
Based on this, a new VA/VeoVa 10/BA (70/20/10) surfactant stabilised latex has been prepared and has demonstrated a higher washability resistance and wet abrasive scrub resistance compared to a conventional surfactant-stabilised terpolymer latex at 80% PVC interior matt paint (figures 10 and 11).
Finally, this new VeoVa-based terpolymer has been formulated in an exterior matt paint formulation at 40% PVC.
The wet abrasive scrub resistance has been measured and demonstrates the improved scrub resistance of the new terpolymer as seen in figure 12.
Alkali resistance of the exterior paint has been determined using an in-house early efflorescence test. As it can been seen in figure 13, the efflorescence resistance of the VeoVa terpolymer is quite close to a commercial all-acrylic and far better than the one observed for the other commercial latices evaluated.
In conclusion, the VeoVa 10-based terpolymer has clearly demonstrated a higher scrub resistance than the conventional VeoVa 10 based terpolymer. It can be used in interior and exterior paint formulations on alkali substrates.En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/17FMCiR8yj9XQCaD2TyU7f3_5OVorT5ok/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=11968
