Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : Solvent-based emulsion paints are still the state of the art for many coating applications. However, interest continues to grow in binders that permit the formulation of solvent-free emulsion based paint systems. This requirement can be met by selecting polymer dispersions with an appropriate minimum film-forming temperature (MFFT). Therefore, the similarities and differences between pure (or straight) acrylic (Ak) and acrylic/styrene (Ak/S) dispersions with different MFFTs will be discussed In the following. Other variables that we considered are the pigment volume concentration (PVC in the range of 46 to 68%), the grade of titanium dioxide pigment and the composition of the extenders used in the formulation. Note de contenu : - Raw materials used
- Results of the tests
- Hydrophobic binder supports film formation at 5°C
- Solvent-free paints absorbs more water then solvent-containing
- Colour change due to artificial weathering
- Chalking results depends on binder typeEn ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/13bkhSDxb7fQuXXW1toekxSXnpAMcER38/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10936

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In earlier work two commercially available aqueous dispersions were used to demonstrate the suitability and differences of acrylic/styrene (Ak/S) and pure acrylic (Ak) copolymers as binders for masonry paints. With the help of a variety of model dispersions, the current work continues to look at the two binder types by studying how chemically different monomers affect the film properties and those of formulated paints. Note de contenu : - MODEL DISPERSIONS WITH TYPICAL BINDER MONOMERS
- RESULTS OF TESTS ON THE POLYMER DISPERSION FILMS : Good water solubility of monomer causes high water uptake of the polymer film - High Water-vapour transmission rate relates to hydrophilic polymer - Repeated washing and drying influences the tensile strenght - n-butylacrylate copolymers exhibits the greatest photostability, styrene lowers the photostability - High styrene content efectuate yellowing of the pure binder during artificial weathering - Results of natural weathering are contradictive to the accelerated artificial weathering tests
- RESULTS OF TESTS ON PIGMENTED COATING : Water absorption, WVTR's and tensile strengths of the pigmented paints
- WEATHERING OF THE PAINF FILMS : Artificial weathering shows differences in the chalking behaviour but not concerning yellowing - Dirt pick-up-resistance is enhanced by binders'Tg and hydrophobicity - Interpretation of the study resultsEn ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lADJoXg6Oo26qZOwU2bHfLKc0Fd7lXuf/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10957

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : Dispersion or emulsion paints are formulated with a variety of chemically different types of binders, which in most cases can be classified as acrylic esters copolymers or vinyl ester copolymers. A suitable binder is necessary to give a high quality paint. Experiments on masonry paints in the PVC range of 35 to 55% show that after many years of outdoor exposure no significant difference between straight acrylic and acrylic/styrene copolymers can be found. More important is the optimisation of the pigment volume concentration and the pigment/extender combination than the type of the binder. Note de contenu : - Various acrylic copolymer dispersions with similar particle size

- Water is the main source of damage a coating
- Neutralisation of binders with NaOH gives better WA and WVTR results
- Outdoor weathering results
- Colour changes due to outdoor exposure
- Yellowing of acrylic based paints is not better than acrylic/styrene
- Chalking due to out door exposure

RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Formulating paints and coatings to provide the right balance of properties is a complex undertaking. Getting the rheology profile correct is just one important task on the formulator’s to-do list, but it is crucial to the ultimate success of the coating.
The rheology profile influences properties of the coating throughout its lifetime, from manufacture, storage, mixing, and application, to the resulting film properties. To control and optimize the rheology of liquid coatings, the formulator typically relies on additives, often referred to as rheology modifiers, thickeners, and thixotropes.
This article reviews some of the basics of rheology and rheological additives and includes comments from a roundtable discussion with industry experts on existing challenges and new developments.Note de contenu : - Basics of rheology

Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A carbon black/latex dispersion was prepared by mini-emulsion polymerisation, and its absorption behaviour towards cationised cotton fabric was investigated. The results indicated that the prepared carbon black/latex dispersion had excellent freeze–thaw stability. Cotton fabric that was cationised with 3 g/l of 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride at a liquor ratio of 30:1 can be optimally dyed with 4% owf carbon black/latex under the conditions of pH 7.2, 60 °C, and 1 h. The adsorption behaviour of the carbon black/latex towards cationised cotton fabric followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm, with a lower dyeing rate and a better colour levelness than the ordinary carbon black dispersion with binder.
