Aiming to solve this problem, the waterborne polyurethane-acrylate (WPUBH) was prepared by post-chain extension of dithiol instead of diamine, which could improve the storage stability and reduce the water absorption rate due to the absence of urea groups, and by terminating with hydroxyethyl acrylate, which could reduce the water absorption rate and improve the mechanical properties at the same time deriving from the crosslinking of double bonds after heating. The rate of water absorption for WPUBH-2 film decreased down to 2.87%, and the tensile strength reached 8.5 MPa. The water resistance and the mechanical properties of WPUBH obtained a good balance compared with those of the carboxylate-based waterborne polyurethane-acrylate in the previous reports. They had excellent bonding properties for wood joints, and the tensile shear strength was up to 4.53 MPa. The influence of WPU/chrome shaving ratios (w/w) on the performance of the billet was investigated by mechanical property test, dynamic thermal mechanical analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry and field-emission scanning electron microscopy. Furthermore, the ability of heat storage and temperature regulation was endowed for the regenerated leather by the addition of paraffin microcapsules. The results showed that a strong interface interaction could be achieved for the regenerated leather billet, which could be due to the formation of hydrogen bonds and the entanglement between WPU and leather shavings. In this way, WPU/leather shaving composites with favorable mechanical properties, thermal stability, ability of heat storage and temperature regulation were obtained. A series of UV-WFPUA materials were synthesized with different contents of hexafluorobutyl methacrylate (HFBMA) and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. When the content of HFBMA was 10%, the UV-WFPUA-3 material exhibited good mechanical properties and excellent hydrophobicity. The iron sheet was selected to simulate an iron artifact sample in this study. The obtained results indicated that the prepared UV-WFPUA material could provide excellent protective properties for simulated iron artifacts. RevêtementsIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The aim of this research is to develop a novel non-leaching antimicrobial waterborne polyurethane (WPU) leather coating material with covalently attached quaternary phosphonium salt (QPS). The structure of the QPS-bearing WPU has been identified, and their thermal stability, mechanical property, and antimicrobial performance have been investigated. The results reveal that the incorporation of QPS slightly reduces the thermal stability of WPU material but would not affects its usability as leather coating. Despite the presence of hydrophobic benzene in QPS structure, the strong hydration of its cationic groups leads to the increased surface contact angle (SCA) and water absorption rate (WAR) of the films, suggesting that the water resistance of the films needs to be improved for the purpose of leather coatings. Antibacterial tests demonstrate that when the QPS content is 20 wt%, QPS-bearing WPU shows effective antimicrobial activity against bacteria. The WPU containing QPS prepared in this study is a non-leaching antimicrobial material and has great potential application as leather coating. Note de contenu : - Materials

Techniques used were Fourier transform infrared, atomic force microscopy, environmental scanning electron microscopy, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Next to covalent crosslinking, it was also demonstrated that the crosslinks, containing quaternized ammonium groups, cluster together to form “nest-like” structures in the bulk of the crosslinked film.
