The decomposition rate to polycarbodiimides is shown to accelerate in an acrylic polymer matrix. The half-life of the guanidine moiety is 178 min at 180°C; however, when the polyguanidine is blended in poly(methyl methacrylate), the half-life is reduced to 4.8 min. As a result of the acceleration effect of acrylic polymers, blends of polyguanidines and carboxylic acid-containing polymers which are neutralized with diethyl amine can be processed to form powder coatings which crosslink at elevated temperatures. The gel fractions of cured powder coatings show that adequate crosslinking occurs at about 180°C Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Synthetic procedures - Kinetic procedures - Preparation of powder coatings - Gel fraction determinations - Panel evaluations

The reactions were monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC). The products were characterised by melting point, ultraviolet (UV) and infrared (IR) spectra. Stabilising action of prepared 2-(5-Benzoyl-2H-benzotriazol-2yl)-4methyl phenol, 2-(5-Benzoyl-2H-benzotriazol-2yl)-4,6-dimethyl phenol and 2-(5-Benzoyl-2H-benzotriazol-2yl)-naphthol for protecting paint against photo-oxidation was examined by a QUV weatherometer. The effect of exposure on the properties of paints such as gloss, whiteness and yellowness was evaluated. Results show that paints containing prepared UV absorbers (UVA) possessed better stabilising effects against photo-oxidation than those employed on standard paints available in the market. VernisIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In this study, the effect of accelerated weathering on the surface properties of Scots pine specimens impregnated with wolmanit-CB, tanalith-E, and adolit-KD5 and coated with synthetic and polyurethane varnishes was investigated by measuring surface hardness, glossiness, and colour. Results showed that weathering caused an increase in the hardness of impregnated and varnished specimens, while it caused a decrease in the glossiness of specimens. Surfaces became rougher and darker after weathering in comparison with the initial surfaces of wood specimens. Positive values of the chromatic coordinates indicated that the wood surfaces changed from their original colour to a reddish and yellowish colour. The highest colour change was detected in the specimens coated with polyurethane varnish alone. Both copper-based wood preservative treatment and varnish coating improved the surface properties of specimens in comparison with the surface properties observed on specimens coated with varnish alone.
