It is imperative that this colorant exhibits optimum performance in water-based and solvent-based products. The paper focuses on the effect of varying molecular weight of polycarboxylate-based surfactants on the properties of the aqueous dispersion. The above powder was placed in a muffle furnace and calcined at 1000°C for 120 min to obtain the corresponding oxide, (Ce, Ba)O2, subsequently, and the oxide was vulcanized at 850°C for 150 min with CS2 as a sulfur source to obtain the Ba2+-doped γ-Ce2S3 red pigment. The effects of different NH4F concentrations (1.0, 2.5, and 4.0 M) and treatment times (30, 60, 90, and 120 min) on the phase composition and chromaticity of the pigment were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and CIELAB colorimetry. The SEM and EDS analyses revealed the presence of irregular flaky particles on the pigment surface after the NH4F treatment; the amounts of particles gradually increased with the NH4F concentration. The XRD and Raman spectra confirmed that these particles were CeF3 and CeFS heterophases. Furthermore, the Raman spectra denoted the presence of amorphous carbon. The XPS analysis demonstrated that the NH4F treatment did not change the valence of Ce (Ce3+ for γ-Ce2S3). The chromaticity of a sample reached its maximum (L* = 34.24, a* = 38.19, and b* = 39.95) after it was treated using 2.5 M NH4F for 60 min, indicating that the elimination of amorphous carbon can effectively improve the pigment chromaticity. solvantsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The polyol method was implemented to prepare stable V–ZrSiO4 suspensions as ceramic ink. It was shown how the rheology, surface tension, viscosity, and particle size of suspensions were affected by the length of polyol solvent and dispersants. The effect of ethylene glycols, diethylene glycol (DEG), triethylene glycol, and tetraethylene glycol as solvents, as well as polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide as dispersants on the ink properties was investigated. The X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR), electron microscopy (FESEM/TEM) and dynamic light scattering analyses were performed to characterize the features of nanopigments. Crystalline V–ZrSiO4 nanopigment was obtained at 1100°C by DEG solvent in the presence of PVP. The sizes of the resulting nanoparticles were in the range of 10–50 nm. The achieved suspensions were tested as ceramic inks on a tile, and the colorimetric CIELAB parameters were measured. The CIE L*a*b* values confirmed the blue color. The surface tension and viscosity of prepared ceramic ink, as well as microstructure of the annealed nanopigments, were in the range required for drop-on-demand inkjet printers. Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The gloss retention of a coating depends in part on the grade of TiO2. Traditionnaly, the TiO2 contribution to gloss retention has been attributed to the fact that TiO2 is a photocatalyst, and that gloss retention differences between different grades of pigment are due to differents levels of TiO2 photocatalytic activity. However, there is poor correlation between photoactivity and gloss retention performance. In addition, there is commonly very poor correlation between exterior exposure rankings of TiO2 pigments and accelerated exposure rankings in the same coating. In this article, we describe a second property of TiO2 beyond photoactivity that explains these observations and allows us to better predict both exterior and accelerated gloss retention results.
