Polyéther amineIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Polyethermonoamines can aid dispersion and stabilisation of pigments in ink to achieve good colour strength, gloss transparency and transfer efficiency, writes by the author.
In an ink formulation the pigment must be dispersed and stabilised to achieve good colour strength, gloss, transparency, and transfer efficiency. Stable, concentrated dispersions with small particles and narrow particle size distribution potentially can lead to higher gloss and colour strength per unit mass of pigment. The push towards water-based formulations and increasing pigment loading underline the needs for good dispersion and stabilisation properties.
In this study, the uses of polyether amines (PEAs) as dispersants for carbon black as well as their physicochemical properties were studied systematically. A series of polyether amines was prepared by varying the molecular weight and the ethylene oxide/propylene oxide ratio.
By understanding the effect of each portion of the molecule on the physical properties and performance, new dispersants can be developed. A variety of different techniques have been used in this study to characterise these properties.
Equilibrium surface tension and solution depletion methods were used to determine the absorptions at the air-water interface and carbon black-water interface, respectively. Dynamic interfacial tension measurements have been made using mineral oil as a dispersed phase. Contact angles of water on carbon on carbon black dispersions were measured to provide information about wettability. The performance of these materials in a carbon black ink formulation, including rheology, stability, and colour transfer efficiency, was also studies.Note de contenu : - Experimental

Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A new form of hybrid binder has been developed in which the silica particles are more homogeneously distributed than in previous technologies. The binder reduces dirt pick-up and can also improve colour retention on exposure. Leaching of soluble components, giving rise to efflorescence and 'snail trails', is also reduced. Note de contenu : - Colour lends character to façades - while it lasts
- Hybrid binder has more homogeneous silica distribution
- Exposure test shows greatly reduced dirt pick-up
- Pigment stability can be improved
- 'Snail trails' due to leaching are reduced
- NMR analysis confirms leaching is reducedEn ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Mdq-00vFYskEOdPjqMUBP4DQRpImle17/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=27543

The highly controllable process requires no polymerisation additives. Paints based on resins from the new process showed better pigment stabilisation, gloss and adhesion than conventional ones of identical chemical composition. Séparation (technologie)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Pigments are manufactured with the particle size distribution that gives the best compromise of properties, but the particles often become cemented together into aggregates during processing. Breaking these aggregates and forming stable dispersions of optimally sized pigment particles is a critical process in the manufacture of coatings. Making dispersions involves three aspects: (1) wetting, (2) separation, and (3) stabilization. Most authors agree that there are three aspects to dispersion but different terms are used, sometimes with conflicting meanings. Be careful reading papers to know how an author is using the terms. Because of effects of the high surface tension and polarity of water, consideration of pigment dispersion is separated in three sections. The first section (JCT, October 2001, page 145), dispersion in organic media, usually solutions of resins in organic solvent, was discussed. Dispersion in aqueous media is treated in the Formulation of Mill Bases section in this issue. The third section covers the use of Dispersion Equipment and Processes as well as the Evaluation of the Degree of Dispersion.
