It aims at exposing the formulation requirements of certain acrylic resin binder suitable for leather finishing applications. The materials are presented in a manner to benefit both the students studying leather science and technology or leather engineering in tertiary institutions as well as those in the leather industry whose knowledge in this technology is deficient. Students of polymer science and technology will also appreciate the contents of this book as it tries to study the effect acrylic polymer resin in the performance of finished leathers. This book will assist mostly undergraduates in understanding the processes of leather making, formulation of finishing agents, properties and behavior of finished leather. It will also benefit those with little or no technical background in leather processes as well as those who have sophisticated background in science but no experience in the leather industry. It will also make for a good reading material for the general public that are yet to know what synergy exist between polymers and leather. Simulation par ordinateurIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In this paper, the microscopic spatial structure change of natural leather collagen Ill (i.e. 1bkv collagen) was simulated using Tinker software. The dynamics of the process for 1bkv [amino acid sequence number of Type III collagen] collagen was simulated at 300K, 320K, 340K and 360K, Through a series of analyses we find that Rg (radius of gyration) of all of the atoms of 1bkv collagen molecules increases with the increase of chosen temperature, and its average value decreases from 24.9Å to 21.0Å. Considering this along with the simulation trajectory of dynamics at different temperatures, people can find that the molecular chains of collagen gradually will become curved, and there's a large degree of bending at 360K. This is further evidence that the atomic distance between collagen molecules is getting smaller with the increase of the experimental set temperature, and it can also explain the mechanism of performance degradation of natural leather. PerméabilitéIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : We have constructed a model of air permeability taking into account appropriate parameters. Two of the parameters which represent the capillary radius and the amount of capillaries in a definite area of leather, respectively r and n have been deduced.
Researches on the locational differences in air permeability based on the model, show that different locations of leather have different values for r and n. The capillary radius of samples near the head location ranges from 452.9nm to 479.1nm, while the quantity of capillaries in the same sample is the greatest, from 7.948 x 1011/m2 to 8.617 x 1011/m2. The capillary radius (r) of a sample from a near centre location is the largest at 581.0nm and the capillary amount (n) is the lowest at only 5.262 x 1011/m2. The capillary radii of samples near the tail and centre of the leather are about 530nm.
Neither the thickness nor aperture ratio can successfully represent the air permeability of leathers. The air permeability process is rather complex. Using only the capillary radius (r) or the quantity of capillaries in a definite area (n) does not allow us to express the air permeability adequately.Note de contenu : - Foundation of the air permeability model and the deduction of parameters

Teinture -- Fibres textiles synthétiquesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The dyeing of non-wovens in fabric form is of interest for a range of applications especially aesthetics. In this work, needle-punched non-woven fabrics were prepared by employing polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) fibres of two different linear density and same mean fibre length in four different fibre linear density ratios and three different fabric mass areal densities, while keeping all other process and material variables constant. The objectives of the study were to find out the saturation point in the dyeing profile of needle-punched non-wovens by varying aforementioned process variables and, for the first time, compare different industrially relevant conventional fabric dyeing methods (Jet, Package and Jigger dyeing) in terms of physical, mechanical and colour fastness properties. In case of Jet and Package dyeing, non-woven fabric was successfully dyed without any structural reorientation while fabric sample deformation is reported in Jigger dyeing process. Furthermore, tensile strength (in newtons) of samples was increased, while air permeability (in mm/s) was decreased due to the slight compactness of structure after the dyeing process.
