Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The utilization of renewable resources in the development of eco-friendly paints and coatings is of increasing interest in the chemical industry now due to their universal availability, inherent biodegradability, low price and low toxicity. Particularly, current research and development work on the application of vegetable ails and plant proteins in coating systems is addressed. Vegetable ails (VO) constitute the largest biodegradable family yielding materials that are capable of competing with petroleum based products. They have unique chemical structure with unsaturation sites, epoxies, hydroxyls, esters and other functional groups along with inherent fluidity characteristics. These enable them to undergo various chemical transformations producing low molecular weight polymeric materials with versatile applications, particularly in paints and coatings. Furthermore, the plant protein like wheat gluten was modified chemically to obtain aqueous protein dispersions that have excellent film-forming characteristics and strong adhesion to various surfaces. Wheat gluten films have very interesting mechanical properties such as extensibility and moisture permeability. Durability and water resistance of the coatings can be tailored by varying the degree of cross-linking of the protein binder. Based on the observed characteristics of the modified protein binders, the development of novel, organic solvent-free paints and coatings appears to be possible. This review paper presents an overview of the recent developments and perspectives on the application of renewable resources in coatings technology. We have briefly described VO derived materials such as alkyds, polyesteramides, polyetheramides, polyurethanes, epoxies, polyols along with their preparation and applications in Paints and coatings. The use of proteins as biopolymer binders in coatings formulations is also well described in this paper. Produits hydratantsIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Oil-in-water (0/W) emulsions are the most common formulation type in cosmetics as it is an ideal medium to transport ail types of active ingredients (hydrophilic and lipophilic). It facilitates the formulation of a wide range of texture with varied sensory properties. The emulsifier in the heart of the emulsion plays a key role in this system. Its primary role is to ensure what is called 'good emulsifying power', i.e. the ability to finely disperse oil droplets in water and keep them stable. Depending on ils structure and its rheological properties, the emulsifier also plays an important sensorial role.
In the current context of sustainable development and economics, more and more consumers are looking for multifunctional products : two-in-one, three-in-one, and sometimes even more versatility. Similarly, cosmetics manufacturers are looking for 'multifaceted' ingredients, able to perform several tasks in order to diminish the number of ingredients in their formulas. The manufacturing process is thus streamlined and consumes less energy.
Today, emulsifiers offering simply good emulsifying power are considered 'basic' emulsifiers. Expectations are high and consumers and manufacturers want versatility.
Montanov L (C14-22 Alcohols and C12-20 Aikyl Glucoside) is a 100% plant-based, environmentally-friendly glucolipidic emulsifier that offers such versatility. It is manufactured in accordance with the 12 principles of green chemistry and exhibits high-performance emulsifying power, an elegant sensory profile, a comforting and a moisturising effect thanks to its liquid crystals, as well as the ability to create a universal chassis that is customisable and helps reduce the development time-to-market. Globally approved by both chemical and cosmetic regulations, Montanov L is a multifaceted emulsifier of excellence that meets all the market requirements.Note de contenu : - Bio-based structure

Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : A bio-based material is a material intentionally made from substances derived from living (or once-living) organisms whereas biopolymers are macromolecules derived from plants, trees, bacteria, algae, or other sources. They are long chains of molecules linked together through a chemical bond and are usually able to perform the functions of traditional petroleum-based products. Biopolymers exist in nature as cellulose (in cotton, wood, wheat, etc.), proteins, starches, and polyesters. The potential for using these materials to make synthetic polymers was identified in the early 1900s, but they have only recently emerged as a viable material for large-scale commercial use.
While biopolymers can be made from an almost unlimited range of bio-based materials, most of the currently marketed biopolymers are made from vegetable oils and natural polymers such as cellulose & starch. Bio-based materials have the potential to produce fewer greenhouse gases, require less energy, and produce fewer toxic pollutants over their life cycle than products made from fossil fuels. They may also be recyclable or compostable depending on the biomaterial and how they have been produced.
As the cost of petroleum resources increases, making products with biobased materials is increasingly attractive. lncreased demand for agricultural and forest-based feedstocks also offers new resource-based economic development opportunities for farmers and struggling rural communities and manufacturing sectors. Moreover, societal benefits from a shift to biobased materials couId be enormous from long term sustainability point of view.Note de contenu : - CLASSIFICATION OF BIO-BASED RAW MATERIALS USED IN PAINT AND COATINGS : Vegetable oil & fatty acid based raw materials - Bio-based natural polymers - Bio-based monomers or building blocks - Bio-based solvents and additives - Para-xylène - Isopropanol - n-Butanol
