A stoichiometric amount of tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA) was added as a crosslinker to the blocked polyisocyanate dispersions resulting in one-package crosslinkable, waterborne urethane coatings. The samples were characterized by means of mechanical properties, chemical resistance, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The deblocking kinetics of the blocked polyisocyanates at different baking temperatures were studied. RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The preparation of epoxy/clay nanocomposites (NCs) and their insertion into coatings are of great importance since the NCs could enhance the protective performances. In this study, epoxy NCs with 1–10 wt% of nanoclay Cloisite 30B (C30B) were prepared by the sonication-assisted solution method. The rheological measurements of epoxy/C30B suspensions revealed non-Newtonian, shear-thinning behavior of the uncured NCs, with an increase in the viscosity, yield stress, and shear modules with increasing organoclay content, while the dispersion effectiveness of C30B decreased. A significant enhancement of the rheological parameters was observed at the second percolation threshold (4.1 vol%) due to the formation of a continuous network of 45-layer-thick tactoids. Although NCs with 1–3 wt% C30B exhibited slightly reduced mechanical and adhesion properties compared with the cured reference epoxy resin, the epoxy primer and topcoat based on NC with 1 wt% C30B generally displayed improved impact resistance and maintained flexibility, pendulum hardness, and good adhesion properties. Two-layer coating systems, i.e., NC-based primers and topcoats, had higher corrosion stability in a salt spray chamber compared to the unmodified system.
(Wikipedia)

SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Phosphate ester surfactants have been widely used as primary anionic emulsifiers for emulsion polymerisation for many years. We are unaware of any published data related to phosphate ester product to effectiveness in latex syntheses. The introduction of this type of surfactant into paint formulation as a wetting and dispersing agent significantly enhance the overhall paint performance on gloss, colour acceptance and stain removal performance. Certain phosphate esters in low VOC formulations can replace glycols and other volatile reagents to improve open time, freeze-thaw and heat stability. The work described in this paper was undertaken to provide a framework for the use of this type of surfactant in pure-acrylic, styrene-acrylic latex synthesis. The overhall performance of phosphate ester surfactant in paint formulation is presented. The APE free Rhodafac employed in this study are complex phosphate ester of polyoxyethylene nonionic surfactants. They are mixtures of both mono- and diesters of the following generic structures. Phosphates ester surfactants are produced acid derivatives. Tipically, the commercial phosphate ester surfactant products are a mixture of monoester, diester and unreacted alcohols and phosphorics acids. Unreacted phosphoric acids are normally present as impurities. Typîcal levels of residual acids are given in. Rhodia's phosphation technology could produce products with superior mono / di alkyl phosphate (MAP/DAP) ratios and lower phosphoric acid content. Itaconic acid (IA) and monomethyl itaconate (MMI) grafted polyethylene (PE) were used as compatibilizers. Na-MMT was modified by dodecyl-, hexadecyl-, and octadecyl-ammonium chlorides and then the compatibilizers were synthesized in solution reaction. 5 wt% organoclay and different concentration of compatibilizers (5, 10, and 15 wt%) were used for the PNC preparations to compare the effects of compatibilizers. The interlayer spacings, d001, and the mechanical properties of samples were measured by XRD analysis and universal testing machine, respectively. The experimental tensile moduli were used in Halpin-Tsai micro mechanical model to obtain "l/t" ratios and the results were compared experimental d001 values obtained from XRD data. It was found that the experimental results are in good agreement with the calculated results. Note de contenu : - Materials
