ThermocinétiqueIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : This study investigates the influence of Luffa Fiber (LF) inclusions on the mechanical and thermal characteristics of unsaturated polyester resin composites. LFs, manually extracted from luffa plants, are integrated at volumetric fractions of 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% into the resin using a hand lay-up technique at ambient conditions. Subsequent machining prepares the samples for mechanical analysis. It is observed that mechanical properties enhance progressively with increased LF incorporation. The optimal impact resistance reaches 2.34KJ/m2, with maximum hardness and compressive strength values of 81.5N/mm2 and 43.9MPa, respectively. Concurrently, a notable reduction in thermal conductivity is evident, particularly at the 25% LF volume, where it measures approximately 0.105W/m.℃. These findings indicate that the LF-reinforced polyester composites exhibit potential for varied engineering applications. Particularly, their augmented mechanical robustness suits components such as sofa parts and door handles, while their improved thermal insulation properties render them suitable for building insulation. This investigation underscores the viability of LF as a reinforcing agent in polymeric composites, offering a balance of enhanced mechanical strength and thermal efficiency, thereby broadening the scope of their application in engineering domains.

Palmier dattier et constituantsIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : The objective of this work is to valorize the waste from date palms tree which is often abandoned in the palm groves The aim is to produce a new composite based on this waste that can be used as an alternative material to the conventional insulators. The approach consists in making a composite material from petiole wood (WPC) in different particle sizes (0 to 1, 1 to 3 and 3 to 5) mm. We then characterized the physical, thermal and mechanical properties of this new material (WPC). The results obtained proved the relative anisotropy of the material and the effect of the particle size distribution on these properties. The composites (WPC) had low density in the range (0.16-0.56) g/cm3 and also exhibited low thermal conductivity, in the range (0.109-0.122)W/mK°. These weak properties make it possible to use (WPC) as an effective insulator. These characteristics were quite acceptable in comparison with other thermal insulation materials such as cork agglomerate and traditional wood. The interesting mechanical properties of the new composite (WPC) have been shown by the tensile tests and the three-point flexural tests. These results make it possible to valorize these materials (WPC) for possible industrial applications. Note de contenu : - MATERIALS : Fibrous wood matrix - Composite material

It was found that the best appearance of the composite plate was that prepared by adding 15% pineapple leaf fibre. Compared with the composite plate without pineapple leaf fibre, it was found that the tensile strength, elongation at break, collapse height, collapse strength and air permeability were reduced compared with the original, while the water permeability, surface wettability and water absorption were greatly improved.
