PolyuréthanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Increasing global energy crisis of petroleum resources has shifted focus of chemical industries to look for alternative raw material resources. The main focus of raw materials in polyurethane system, such as polyol i.e. based on petroleum and natural gas, would be gradually replaced by those from renewable sources. Starch is a relatively inexpensive and renewable product from abundant plants natural sources like starch is used during manufacturing of polyurethane (PU) foam extensively from the last decades and replaced petrochemical based PU foam due to their lower environmental few impact, easy availability, lower cost and biodegradability. Starch which is an abundant but underutilized component of cellulosic biomaterials constitutes a rich source of polyol and being considered for the production of bio-degradable PU foam. Lignin was mainly used for production of degradable polyurethane foams, followed by elastomers as well as wood adhesives. For this review paper we will focus on the progress of research in starch based polyurethane materials for foam application.

Revêtements -- Propriétés mécaniquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Cottonseed oil (CSO) was converted into a polymerizable polyol by in-situ epoxidation and hydroxylation in the presence of water as nucleophile and sulfuric acid as catalyst. This hydroxylated CSO (HCSO) was polymerized with isophorone diisocyanate at different NCO-to-OH ratios to furnish polyurethane coatings of different composition. The mechanical properties of the resulting moisture-cured films were studied. The adhesion, abrasion resistance, impact strength, flexibility, water vapor permeability, and chemical and/or solvent and corrosion resistance of the coatings were investigated. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The development of water-borne wood coatings is still hindered by a limited set of resin technologies. A new production technology is being trialled with the aim of producing water-borne short oil alkyd (ALK) polyols to rival the best ones used in solvent-borne 2K paints and varnishes. The process also generates superior air-drying alkyds and new resins for WB UV formulations. Significantly increasing the biorenewable content contributes to the improved sustainability of wood coatings. Note de contenu : - VOC emissions present a challenge
- Increased demand for sustainable wood coatings
- The need for more sustainable wood coatings is evident
- Screw extrusion improves stability of water-borne alternative
- New process to reduce VOC and carbon footprint
- Process innovation to avoid thermal shock
- Emulsified alk improved coalescence
- Flexible ATEX-compliant emulsification
