RhéologieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The number of studies on reduction of volatile organic compounds (VOC) content', as well as minimisation or complete elimination of isocyanates in the solventborne 2K PUR coatings has significantly increased over the lest few decades.
The growing demand for coating systems with a limited volatile organic compounds (VOC) content and desire to eliminate toxic isocyanates as curing agents in 2K polyurethane coatings are driving the development and research of alternative («non-isocyanate» NISO-) curing technologies. It is important that physical, mechanical, protective and decorative properties of the new coatings are comparable to those of conventional solventborne 2K polyurethane systems. The non-isocyanate curing coatings must, as far as possible, compensate the drawbacks and limitations of conventional solventborne 2K systems.
The objective was to carry out a comparison study of the properties and performance of conventional solventborne 2K PUR medium and high solid coatings and systems based on different non-isocyanate curing technologies presently available in the coating raw materials market.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS : Isocyanate-based systems (Formluations 1 and 2) - Non-isocyante curing systems (Formulations 3-6)

(Wikipedia)

ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : As replacements for bisphenol-A, new bio-based and reactive epoxy-amine coatings have been investigated in this study. Bio-based precursor, epoxy-functionalized tung oil (ETO) was synthesized using glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and tung oil via a Diels–Alder reaction according to our previous work. The new ETO-diamine-cured systems were prepared with the equivalent molar ratio at room temperature. ETO was cured with acyclic aliphatic (Jeffamine D400) and cyclic aliphatic (Epicure 3300) amines, at four temperatures ranging from 25 to 150°C. The coatings were then compared in terms of their thermal and mechanical properties. The cured coatings were analyzed by IR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and gel content tests. TGA analysis showed that the epoxide-diamine polymers demonstrated thermal stability up to 170°C. The mechanical properties of the films were investigated by pendulum hardness, pencil hardness, cross-hatch adhesion, pull-off adhesion, impact resistance, reverse resistance, and chemical resistance testing. While all the cured systems exhibited good pencil hardness, cross-hatch adhesion, impact resistance, and reverse resistance properties, the epoxide-acyclic diamine system demonstrated greater pendulum hardness and notable pull-off adhesion at 150°C. The research demonstrates the potential for greener and more reactive tung oil-based epoxide coatings with enhanced properties. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL :

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Enzyme-mediated addressing is a versatile, specific, energy-efficient, and easy-to-apply method for the formation of coatings and particle arrangements on surfaces. While variability, with respect to particle materials and achievable structures, has received much attention in the past, the equally important aspect of compatible support materials has not yet been considered. This is however an extremely relevant aspect with regard to real-world applications. In particular, technical polymers and metal supports are of supreme importance in sectors such as life-sciences or nanotechnology. This work is designed as an extensive compatibility study for support materials with the enzyme-mediated addressing of proteins. By careful evaluation of produced coating structures, it is shown that most examined metals and polymers, as well as inorganics and wood, can be successfully coated with thin and highly site-specific protein films, opening up manifold new possibilities for the application of the enzyme-mediated addressing in high-tech products.

Test d'immersionIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Recently, magnesium (Mg) and its alloys have attracted more attention because of their biodegradability and fascinating mechanical properties in the medical field. However, their low corrosion resistance and high degradability in the body have a great effect on mechanical stability and cytocompatibility, which hinders its clinical applications. Therefore, here we introduce a bifunctional composite coating composed of polycaprolactone and synthesized hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HA-NPs) loaded with simvastatin deposited on the AZ31 alloy via electrospinning technique. The synthesized HA-NPs and composite nanofibers layer were characterized using TEM, FE-SEM, FTIR, and XRD to understand the physiochemical properties of the composite nanofibers compared to pristine polymer and bare alloy. Corrosion resistance was evaluated electrochemically using potentiodynamic polarization and EIS measurements, and biodegradability was evaluated in terms of pH and Mg ions release in SBF solution. The as-prepared coating was found to retard the corrosion and increased the osteocompatibility as resulted in cell culture test, a higher cell attachment and proliferation on the implant biointerface, in addition to releasing simvastatin in a controlled platform. Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Slot coating of particle suspensions is commonly used in the manufacturing of a wide variety of products. An important limit in this process is known as low-flow limit, which refers to the minimum wet film thickness that can be coated at a given substrate velocity. Recent studies have shown that shear-induced particle migration leads to a highly non-uniform particle distribution in the coating bead, playing an important role in the flow dynamics in slot coating of particulate systems. In this work, we extend the previous analyses to investigate the effects of particle migration on the low-flow limit in slot coating of particle suspensions at both dilute and concentrated conditions. As a first approximation, the suspension is modeled as a Newtonian liquid with a concentration-dependent viscosity, and shear-induced particle migration is described according to the diffusive flux model. The resulting set of governing equations is solved with a stabilized finite element method coupled with the elliptic mesh generation method for the free-boundary problem. The results show that particle migration changes the liquid viscosity near the downstream meniscus and strongly affects the force balance that sets the critical operating conditions at the low-flow limit. Remarkably, it was found that particle migration enlarges the operating window of the process when the suspensions are compared to a Newtonian liquid with the same bulk properties, especially at high concentrations.
