The influence of Young’s modulus and the coating position of the polyurea on the coated ceramic sample were investigated. The back-coated ceramic with lower modulus polyurea (PUR240 MPa) could show higher flexural strength due to the cushion effect that reduces tensile stress around the bottom center of the substrate. The higher modulus polyurea coating (PUR866 MPa) has a significant influence on the flexural strength of the coated ceramic sample. In back-coating, the higher modulus coating increased the flexural strength of the coated ceramic sample by nearly twofold, compared to lower modulus. This higher modulus coating enhanced the stress distribution as well as storage energy in the sample. According to the results of the FEM simulation, the mechanism which influences the stress distribution within samples during the three-point bending test was investigated. The cushion effect shows a main contribution in stress distribution by a lower modulus coating. The cushion effect occurs near the supporting pins and contributes to the stress dissipation and the reduction of stress concentration at the center-bottom of the substrate. In contrast, a thickening effect plays an important role in the case of higher modulus polyurea coatings. The center-back-coated with higher modulus polyurea acts to increase the thickness of the ceramics and dominates the effect on the flexural strength of the coated ceramic sample. SilanesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Physical and mechanical properties of epoxy resin-based coatings were improved using either a combination of a silane coupling agent aminoethylaminopropyltrimethoxysilane (AEAPS) and an epoxy resin, or an epoxy resin alone. An epoxy resin, with added AEAPS at the concentration of 1 or 3wt% at a film thickness of 25 to 100µm, showed better adhesion on steel surfaces than the epoxy resin alone. The epoxy resin, cured with an AEAPS concentration of 7wt% at a film thickness of 100µm, could withstand heat at 300°C for 20 minutes. The heat-resistance result was measured in terms of colour difference (ΔE) by a colorimetric method, from which the maximum ΔE between the coated film with the epoxy resin-AEAPS and the epoxy resin alone was 3.4. The heat resistance of coated films of epoxy resin-AEAPS tested by thermo-gravimetric analysis showed that the heat resistance increased with increasing AEAPS concentration. The Si-O-Si cross-linking position, found by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), confirmed its effect on heat endurance and corrosion prevention. The authors found that the use of AEAPS of 7wt% for a 100µm film could prevent the occurrence of corrosion under a 1000-hour salt-spray exposure. The corrosion rate was found to be 0.39 mil (9.9µm) per year. The flooring with AEAPS addition to the epoxy resin was better than that with cycloaliphatic amine. The addition of AEAPS of 15.5wt% improved the film mechanical properties, hardness, compressive strength and chemical resistance in comparison with the neat epoxy resin or the combination of AEAPS and cycloaliphatic amine. Tribologie (technologie)Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The influence of 0.5, 0.75, and 1 wt.% of graphene oxide (GrO) in nanocomposite coating on scratch behavior and tribological performance was analyzed. Graphite was oxidized using the Marcano and Tour method to obtain graphite oxide, which is thermally exfoliated at 700°C getting graphene oxide. The transformation of graphite to graphene oxide was evaluated via Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Effects of graphene oxide content on the friction and wear behavior of polyester composite coatings were evaluated under dry sliding conditions. Experimental findings showed that the addition of 0.5 wt.% GrO was effective in reducing the friction coefficient of polyester coating. Meanwhile, under the same sliding conditions, the wear results revealed that the polyester coating filled with 1 wt.% GrO has better antiwear ability compared to those filled with 0.5 and 0.75 wt.% GrO. From the scratch analyses, we deduced that coating scratch behavior was highly affected by the amount of fillers inside the polyester matrix. In fact, the best friction characteristic and scratch resistance were observed in the case of polyester coatings filled with the lower amount of GrO, namely 0.5 wt.%.

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Unprotected copper conductors are prone to oxidation and corrosion, especially when in contact with salt water or at high temperature. In this study, we compared commercially available coating with graphene oxide and plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) graphene coated wires in terms of antioxidation and anticorrosion protection. Samples were subjected to aging tests in a salt spray chamber. Thereafter, both the degree of coverage and surface protection were assessed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements and scanning electron microscope images, which showed significant surface protection for both graphene coatings. Raman spectra obtained from the transferred coatings revealed their structural stability, which shows that it is possible to successfully use few atomic-layers-thick coatings to protect commercially available wires. Wire resistance tests performed at temperatures up to 320°C showed similar or better results for graphene coatings than for commercially coated wires. Additionally, images of the wires after high temperature tests showed high antioxidation protection for graphene coatings, especially for PECVD. The results of this study can be applied for further research on mechanical suitability of the coatings and wires themselves, especially after high-temperature CVD processes. Such studies may lead to novel Cu wire processing technologies. Note de contenu : - Coverage and corrosion protection
