Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) was oxidised by hydrogen peroxide to prepare oxidised polyvinyl alcohol (OPA). The chemical structure of OPA was characterised by FTIR, SEC and potentiometric titration. PVA was ruptured into fragments along with the formation of terminal aldehyde and carboxyl groups after oxidation. Then the modification effect of OPA on collagen was investigated. A Schiff's base was formed between the aldehyde group of OPA and the amino group of collagen under alkaline conditions, without altering the triple helical structure of collagen. OPA promoted the moderate aggregation of collagen through chain entanglement, and enhanced the thermal stability of collagen. The main reaction between OPA and collagen was proposed as grafting of the single aldehyde component of OPA onto the collagen chain, which was quite different from the cross-linking action of glutaraldehyde. These results suggest the prospect of designing collagen-based biomaterial with a proper range of strength by OPA. To improve the thermal stability of the dyes, a hydroxyl functional group that could react with blocked polyisocyanates was introduced into the dyes. The prepared dyes had absorption maxima near 500 nm, and the chromaticity diagrams of all synthesised dyes exhibited smaller x and y values than those of CI Pigment Red 254, indicating that the colour of the synthesised dyes was close to an orange shade. The dyes reacting with blocked polyisocyanates showed extremely high thermal stability compared with analogous dyes not reacting with polyisocyanates. Stabilité thermiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Phosphorus-containing liquid epoxidate polybutadiene (PDCP-LEPB) is synthesized and used as a reactive additive to improve the water, wear and fire resistance of UV-curable acrylate coatings containing nano-SiO2 as a filler. The structure of PDCP-LEPB and the curing condition are confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The addition of PDCP-LEPB should be controlled at around 10% as shown by thermal stability measurements; with the addition of PDCP-LEPB, composites show earlier degradation to release flame-retardant components, and thus the fire resistance of plywood is improved when its surface is applied by the composite coatings containing PDCP-LEPB. Besides, the fire protecting ability can be greatly enhanced with SiO2 addition due to the synergistic effect of P, Si and Cl coexistence in the matrix. The addition of PDCP-LEPB improves the water resistance of plywood as reflected by the water absorption rates, contact angle measurements and stain resistance test due to the hydrophobic nature of olefin backbone and increment of crosslinking density; the addition of nano-SiO2 has a much more positive effect on the improvement in their stain resistance and wear resistance due to the increase in surface roughness and stiffness, respectively. VernisIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Thermochromic displays, which were evaluated in this study, combine printed electronics with the thermochromism phenomenon. Conductive lines printed on the reverse side and thermochromic printing ink printed on the front side of cardboard packaging form a thermochromic display that gives cardboard packaging additional value. Displays were printed on different printing materials, and thermochromic printing ink was deposited in one and two layers. In addition, half of the samples were varnished. The influence of the printing material, the thickness of the thermochromic printing ink layer, the varnish, the high temperature, and light fastness on the display's operability were all evaluated. It was clearly shown that the choice of printing material plays a crucial role in the display's operability. Moreover, high temperature and light fastness also have a significant influence, although the impact is negligible when the display is used at room temperature. Transition vitreuseIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Polyphenylene ether (PPE) is a polymer with very high glass transition temperature, superior thermal stability but poor melt processability. Mainly to improve its processability and chemical resistance, it is blended with Polystyrene (PS) and Nylon-6, respectively. In this research, ternary blends of PPE/PS/Nylon-6 were prepared using co-rotating twin screw extrusion and test specimens were injection molded. The influence of Maleic anhydride and screw speed on the mechanical and thermal properties of the ternary blends was investigated. The 40/40/20 blends, without Maleic anhydride, processed at screw speed of 600 min–1 showed highest tensile, flexural and impact strengths of 65.74 MPa, 82.22 MPa and 8.88 kJ/m2, respectively. Complete miscibility of the three polymers in the ternary blend was evidenced by scanning electron micrographs. Glass transition temperature of the ternary blend was 127 °C. High thermal and dimensional stability of the blend was evidenced by lowest volatile mass and highest residual mass at 800 °C along with decomposition temperature of 458.6 °C. Maleic anhydride was not effective as compatibilizer in improving the mechanical properties of the ternary blend.
