Spectroscopie de photoélectronsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Hydrophobic-oleophobic coatings were prepared by using the sol-gel process with organic-inorganic hybrids based on perfluoropolyether-polycaprolactone (PFPE-PCL) copolymers. Hybrid coatings were prepared by changing the organic-inorganic ratio, the PFPE/PCL ratio in the copolymer, and the reaction conditions. A complete surface characterisation was carried out by contact angle analysis and x-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS). In all cases the wettability of the coatings was found to be very low. Surface composition analysis showed that the surface segregation of the fluorinated PFPE segments was always high enough to give a very high hydrophobic character to the coating surface. RugositéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The protection of wood surfaces against water is a primary requirement to enhance their life-time and durability. In this article, a hydrophobic surface modification of selected hardwood surfaces (including high-density (HD) and low-density (LD) samples) is presented, by coating them with waterborne imidized nanoparticles under pure conditions or with vegetable oil. The performance of both nanoparticle coatings relative to noncoated and oil-coated samples was evaluated by water contact angles, microscopy, and optical profilometry. The pure nanoparticle coatings often increase the hydrophobicity, but they do not yet form a fully protective layer due to their porous structure after drying. The nanoparticle coatings with vegetable oil form a continuous layer with a maximum contact angle of 118°. The coating formation highly depends on the wood density (and resulting surface porosity), resulting in spreading of the aqueous dispersion on HD wood and penetration on LD wood. A thin continuous nanoparticle coating with incorporated vegetable oil provides highest contact angles, as the roughness of the original wood fibers remains visible in the surface profile. SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Functional surfaces with dirt repellent properties are increasingly important as it takes less effort and surfactants to clean them. Existing easy-to-clean effect additives are based on fluorosilanes and polysiloxanes. Their application is limited to special coating systems and their effectiveness often declines with time. In a bachelor thesis the permanent easy-to-clean effect of non-ionic monomeric and polymeric fluorinated surfactants as additives in various coating systems has been investigated. The additive developed, with additional functionalities, is universal and may be crosslinked into different coating systems. The additives were tested in a range of solventborne and waterborne coating systems. The easy-to-clean effect evaluation was performed with resistance to abrasion stress for water- and dirt repellence and their permanence. The results show that fluorinated polymers with multiple functionalities especially generate hydrophobie surfaces with a permanent easy-to-clean effect in different coatings. Structure chimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The aim of this work was to study the morphology and physical properties of siloxane–polyacrylate (SPA) dispersion and coating films. The SPA dispersion was synthesized by seeded emulsion polymerization using two different types of silane coupling agents, i.e., vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) and 3-(trimethoxysilyl) propyl methacrylate (MPTMS), at 1–9% by weight. The effect of the type and content of silane coupling agent used in the SPA dispersion synthesis on the resulting morphology and physical properties of the obtained SPA dispersion and coating films were studied. The results revealed that SPA dispersion synthesized using VTES exhibited a smaller particle size and a higher stability than those using MPTMS. Furthermore, the hydrophobic surfaces and water repellence of the coating films using VTES in the emulsion were higher than those using MPTMS, due to the smoother surface morphology.
