Within a matter of weeks, normal day-to-day life changed to something more akin to a horror film as many nations introduced draconian measures in order to reduce the spread of the virus and prevent the numbers of patients requiring hospital treatment overwhelming their intensive care facilities. In light of the perceived high infectivity of the virus, members of the Royal Society of Chemistry's Surface Coatings Special Interest Group, in collaboration with the British Coatings Federation, organised a virtual gathering of more than 130 academics, industry specialists and representatives of healthcare and transport organisations to share knowledge about antiviral coatings and express views on what needs to be done to accelerate research output in this field. One of the aims of the meeting was to review hygienic coatings technology' and its prospects for fighting viruses. Note de contenu : - Use of surfactants

ThermogravimétrieIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : Copper(II) soaps derived from Neem (CN) and Pongamia (CP) non-edible oils have been thermally analyzed using TGA technique to determine their energy of activation. IR and NMR spectroscopic studies have been also done earlier. The copper soaps derived from these oils show a single step thermal degradation corresponding to saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acid components of the non-edible oils. Various equations like Coats-Redfern, Horowitz-Metzger, Broido equations were applied to evaluate the energy of activation. The values of activation energy are observed to be in the following order for all these soaps: CN > CP. CP is observed to be more stable than CN due to its higher activation energy. Titre : Towards a better understanding of release : Fast and flexible assessment method for accurate and realistic copper release rates from antifouling coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Marcel Butschle, Auteur ; Mads Olsen, Auteur ; Claus Erik Weinell, Auteur ; Søren Kiil, Auteur ; Kim Dam-Johansen, Auteur ; Katja Kustermann, Auteur ; Marius Schackmann, Auteur Année de publication : 2023 Article en page(s) : p. 66-70 Note générale : Bibliogr.

It is possible to measure the effect of leached layer thickness as well as the effect of hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity of the coating matrix. The methodology offers versatility and the possibility of combining release rate measurements with several exposure conditions. Revêtements antisalissures:Peinture antisalissuresIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The efficacy of the active biocide ingredients used in antifouling bottom paint to contain and impede the growth of biofouling on boat hulls is of global economic concern, given that costs associated with mitigating the damage caused by invasive species are escalating, especially in coastal waters where fouling nutrients are concentrated. The efficacy of an antifouling coating depends on site-specific fouling pressure where the vessel operates, which blocide(s) are used in the formulation, and the biocidal release rate from the painted surface to the ambient water. Coatings formulated with cuprous oxide have been around for at least 100 years, and are applied to an estimated 90% of the world's vessels whose hulls are protected with biofouling control coatings. Historically, copper has been repeatedly challenged and subsequently reviewed for its risk and effectiveness, and is arguably the most researched substance for toxicity in the marine environment. Likewise, copper-based antifouling paint has been repeatedly tested for efficacy in hundreds of coatings formulations by multiple manufacturers. Therefore, it is not unreasonable to characterize copper-based antifouling coatings as proven technology. Simulation par ordinateurIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Additives often consist of additive mixtures of heterogeneous components. Their anisometry leads to part properties that depend very strongly on the orientation of the additives. For this reason, it is essential to ‧describe such orientation behavior at an early phase of development when additized plastics parts are being designed.
