Revêtements antisalissuresIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Herein, a series of antifouling coatings (CTNCs) composed of acrylic boron silicon polymer (ABSP) and environmental-friendly photocatalysts C3N4-TiO2(B) heterojunctions were successfully prepared. Large-scale production and low-cost photocatalyst C3N4-TiO2(B) can be perfectly compounded with ABSP, realizing the possibility of engineering application. SEM and AFM analysis showed that the C3N4-TiO2(B) particles were firmly embedded in the coating, but serious agglomeration appeared when the content of the photocatalyst exceeds 7 wt%. The hydrophilic nanoparticles can accelerate the hydrolysis and adjust the self-polishing rates of the polymer matrix to repel bacteria and algae. When the content of C3N4-TiO2(B) was in the range of 5–7 wt%, the CTNCs displayed better resistance to Nitzschia closterium, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli than the coating containing pure C3N4, and the anti-bacterial rates towards S. aureus and E. coli can reach 99.72% and 98.96%. SiliconesLes silicones, ou polysiloxanes, sont des composés inorganiques formés d'une chaine silicium-oxygène (...-Si-O-Si-O-Si-O-...) sur laquelle des groupes se fixent, sur les atomes de silicium. Certains groupes organiques peuvent être utilisés pour relier entre elles plusieurs de ces chaines (...-Si-O-...). Le type le plus courant est le poly(diméthylsiloxane) linéaire ou PDMS. Le second groupe en importance de matériaux en silicone est celui des résines de silicone, formées par des oligosiloxanes ramifiés ou en forme de cage (wiki).Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Amphiphilic coatings are nowadays described as the most promising strategy for the achievement of an effective and eco-friendly antifouling marine paint, based on a physical principle. Nevertheless, most of the preparations imply the introduction of fluorinate chemicals for the formation of the hydrophobic moieties, which are potentially toxic for the marine environment in the case of an accidental release. The present work evaluates the possibility of removing fluorinate species for the implementation of such coatings and their replacement with analogous long-alkyls. In particular, this work presents an easily implementable procedure for the manufacturing of an amphiphilic system that exploits the reactivity of a commercially available –OH-rich hybrid polysiloxane resin. The resin was first modified through sol–gel chemistry that was used in the grafting of a silane-bearing hydrophobic long-alkyl chain, while the introduction of the hydrophilic moieties was conducted contextually to the curing process, through the reaction with a commercially available PEG-ilate isocyanate hardener. The effective persistence of the amphiphilic character with respect to the replacement of the fluorinate silane by the alkylsilane was ensured by the measurement of the hysteresis contact angle. The effectiveness of the persistence of the antifouling/foul-release properties was assessed through testing against the adhesion and deposition of egg white, as a proteinaceous probe, Mytilus edulis (mussel) and Ulva intestinalis (algae). All the tests indicated that the amphiphilic coating prepared from long-alkyl silane performed even better than fluorinate silane-containing samples in this hybrid coating system resulting from the fusion of a xerogel and a resin. The results suggested that the use of a long alkyl silane was an effective alternative to the use of potentially noxious fluorinate silanes, with advantages that boost the ecological benefits and also include the performance of the coating. Salissures biologiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : In search of new sustainable alternatives to reduce the use of metallic antifouling pigments in marine paints, three n-alkyl 2-furoates were synthesized by safe procedures framed within the green chemistry concepts. These compounds were characterized by current organic analysis, and their antifouling properties were first evaluated on Artemia salina nauplii in the laboratory. Then, antifouling paints formulated with these compounds were assayed in a marine environment. Both laboratory and field tests indicate that n-alkyl 2-furoates have strong antifouling activity and are safe chemicals for marine paints. StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Marine coatings protect submerged surfaces from the negative effects of biofouling. In this work, we demonstrate a new method to prepare self-stratified, amphiphilic glycidyl-carbamate (GC)-based (epoxy urethane-based) coatings (AmpSiGC coatings) that have fouling-release properties making them suitable for marine use. The prepared coating systems are unique and durable in character as the bulk coating takes advantage of both epoxy and urethane functionalities while the surface is comprised of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic domains, granting it an amphiphilic characteristic. The experimental approach aimed to evaluate several factors that influence coating performance, including molecular weight of poly (ethylene glycol) (PEG) and PDMS moieties, ratio of hydrophobic (PDMS) and hydrophilic (PEG) components in the system, and the effect of different curing agents. The results demonstrated that polymeric chains of 10,000 Mn PDMS and 750 Mn PEG at 10–15 wt.% each offer substantially improved or comparable fouling-release performance in comparison to commercial marine coatings. This paper reports on the facile synthesis and characterization of the GC resin and GC prepolymers using FTIR and epoxy titrations ; surface characterization of the coatings using ATR-FTIR, XPS, and AFM; and fouling-release assessment of the surfaces using laboratory biological assays with the barnacle Amphibalanus amphitrite, the algae Ulva linza and Navicula incerta, and the bacteria Cellulophaga lytica. Several of the AmpSiGC coatings exhibited promising performance, which were better or comparable to the internal and commercial reference coatings.
