VulcanisationIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Brominated tert octyl phenol formaldehyde resin (PR) is an important cross linker for chlorinated butyl rubber (CIIR). There are two competitive reactions in the vulcanization process of CIIR, the cross-linking reaction and the self-poly-condensation reaction of PR. The cross-linking density was measured by the equilibrium swelling method. The results showed: with the increasing of PR content, the cross-linking density increased when it was less than 10 phr, and decreased when the PR content exceeded 10 phr. The kinetics equation of cross-linking reaction and the self-poly-condensation reaction was obtained by non-isothermal DSC method. The results showed that the concentration index n2 of PR in the cross-linking reaction was far less than the concentration index n3 of PR in the self-poly-condensation reaction. The self-poly-condensation reaction was more sensitive to the concentration of PR. This explained that the cross-linking density was out of proportion with the cross linker PR content. The mechanical properties and the dynamic mechanical properties were investigated by the universal testing machine and the dynamic mechanical performance analysis (DMA), respectively. The results showed that the cross-linking density had a great impact on the mechanical properties and the dynamic mechanical properties, and the variation trend of the cross-linking density was further confirmed by the corresponding variation of the properties. When the PR content was 5 phr, the CIIR vulcanizates had better mechanical properties. This paper focuses on effects of modifying veneer with titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles on the performance of a waterborne coating and formaldehyde emission. Commercial waterborne varnish was used to apply a surface finish on the modified veneered panels. Changes caused by TiO2 nanoparticle treatment that could affect the finishing performance were measured. The results showed slight increases in the weight and contact angle of the veneers treated with TiO2 nanoparticles, whereas the modified veneered panels after surface finishing presented improved hardness at high nanoparticle loadings. Modification of the veneers by nanoparticles had a minor negative influence on the coating glossiness and adhesion due to a blocking effect between the coating film and the modified veneers. Formaldehyde emissions were considerably reduced due to degradation by the TiO2 particles under UV-light irritation.

Teinture -- Fibres textilesIndex. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Five new 7-alkyloxy-4-trifluoromethylcoumarin fluorescent dyes were synthesised using the Pechmann and Williamson etherification reactions. The structures of these coumarin dyes were characterised by Fourier Transform–infrared, proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectra. One of the new coumarin compounds, 7-isopropyloxy-4-trifluoromethylcoumarin, was microencapsulated with melamine–formaldehyde as the shell material by in situ polymerisation. The microcapsules were characterised in terms of Fourier Transform–infrared spectrum, particle size distribution and scanning electron microscopy morphology. The cotton fabric finished with the microencapsulated coumarin dye showed strong fluorescence under ultraviolet light. The aim was to reduce the NMA content and the formation of free formaldehyde from pigment printing pastes by employing newly synthesized core-/shell-type polymers. After five washing cycles, the synthesized core-/shell-type polymer including 1% NMA in the core and 1% NMA in the shell with T g values +30°C and −20°C, respectively, with lowest total NMA content (1.03%) yielded the best result and showed closest ΔE values to the commercially available polymer including 4% NMA. Dry and wet rubbing fastness results showed no significant changes in the absence of NMA when compared with NMA containing samples. The penetration degree of the pigment pastes of the corresponding polymers was relatively higher on 100% cotton fabric for both red- and blue-colored pigments. A negligible decrease in color strength has been observed for all polymers when colored in red.
