Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=5194

This results in the variation of microstructure in moldings through the thickness direction. It has been reported that these phenomena result in the layered structure of injection moldings. Particularly, because of the rapid rate of crystallization, PBT injection moldings have well-defined skin and core layers. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of mold temperature on the development of structure and property variations of PBT injection moldings in the thickness direction. Tensile tests were performed using
dumbbell specimens that were stamped out from the sliced specimens of moldings. Neck phenomenon occurred irrespective of mold temperature and distance from the surface of moldings. The start point of neck propagation shifted to higher strain with increasing distance from the surface. Tensile modulus increased with increasing distance from the surface. In order to discuss these results from a structural viewpoint, the microstructure of each layer was evaluated by density, wide-angle X-ray diffraction and Fourier transform infrared absorption measurements. The delay in necking start points with increasing distance from the surface is due to the higher crystallinity of the inner layer compared to that of the layer near the surface. Two crystal forms of PBT ( alpha- and béta-forms) were developed in injection moldings. The region near the surface, where content of alpha-form is larger than that of béta-form, becomes thinner with increasing mold temperature. It is known that the crystal modulus of alpha-form is lower than that of béta-form. Therefore the portion of moldings with lower tensile modulus and yield strength becomes smaller. It is suggested that the border between the skin and core layers, where tensile property changes, shifts to the surface of PBT injection moldings as mold temperature increases.DOI : 10.3139/217.1827 Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=3114

Langues : Américain (ame) Tags : Flow-induced corrosion Coatings Acceleration tests EIS Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : For corrosion protective coatings that are designed to give lifetimes of protection that may extend to 50 years, valid accelerated test methods are necessary to develop improved systems and validate performance. Fluid flow over metals has long been believed to influence the corrosion process. Studies have been focused on the effects of flow rate on the corrosion of bare metals. The influence of fluid flow on the degradation of metal-protective coatings has received less attention. This paper describes a preliminary study on the influence of laminar flow on organic coatings. A Hele-Shaw cell and its associated fluid control apparatuses are incorporated into the electrochemical cell setup. The barrier properties of the coating as a function of immersion time and flow rate have been monitored by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. We observe that the barrier properties of the coating measured electrochemically decrease exponentially with the increasing flow rate. We propose that the flowing electrolyte solution could be used in acceleration tests for the lifetime prediction of organic coatings as the acceleration of failure we have observed does not appear to change the mechanism of failure. Further analysis is proposed to validate immersion flow rate as a universal accelerating parameter for coating failure. This paper describes the anticorrosive behavior of a commercial pigment mixture containing zinc hypophosphite, reduced levels of zinc phosphate, and zinc oxide. The anticorrosive performance of the pigment mixture was assessed by electrochemical techniques (corrosion potential and linear polarization measurements) employing pigment suspensions. The behavior of each separate component of the mixture was also studied in the same way. The nature of the protective layer was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). In a second stage, the anticorrosive properties of the pigment were assessed by incorporating it into alkyd and epoxy paints that were evaluated by accelerated (salt spray and humidity tests) and electrochemical measurements. Experimental results showed that improved anticorrosion protection is achieved in paints with reduced zinc phosphate contents as a consequence of the synergistic interaction between zinc hypophosphite and the other components of the pigment mixture.
