People have now become more conscious ofthe adverse effects of toxic chemicals used in industries. Efforts must be made by the chemical industries not to pollute the environment from the inadvertent release of toxic chemicals into the ecological system. The article discusses the use ofconcrete as a secondary containment. Applicable regulations, concrete design, and surface preparation for lining applications have been reviewed. An attempt has been made to summarize the various lining systems available for protecting concrete in secondary containment. Note de contenu : - Concrete as secondary containment structure

Most important consequences of these new regulations and the experience from coating manufacturers with their implementation will be discussed.
Will this mean that we will see less new regulation in the next couple of years ? The author will review items that should affect our industry and that are currently under discussion or that will soon be on the agenda of the european authorities.Note de contenu : - REACH : What is REACH ? - Key dates - Other key dates - Exposure scenarios - Downstream users concerns after the first registration deadline

AcoustiMax composites offer several advantages over existing polyurethane substrate and other glass-mat thermoplastic (GMT) materials for use in headliner applications. AcoustiMax composite substrates are highly rigid which allows for addition of components and modularity. They also provide excellent dimensional stability over the entire range of vehicle interior temperatures. In addition to providing higher stiffness, AcoustiMax composites allow greater styling flexibility with smaller bend radius molding capability. Note de contenu : - Properties of AcoustiMax composites

For a better understanding of the emission characteristics, the release of volatile organic compounds from some specially manufactured furniture was studied in 1 m3 climate chambers. Special attention was given to the detection of photoinitiator fragments, which can significantly contribute to the pollution of indoor air. It was shown that the fragmentation products contributed 20-60% to the total emission, which was typically found in a range of 100 μ/m3 to 250 μg/m3 within the testing period of about 600 hr. One main compound was the strongly odorous benzaldehyde that is generated by many applied photoinitiators via α-cleavage. It was also observed that the curing time has a strong effect on the emission potential. Note de contenu : - EXPERIMENTAL : Sample preparation - Chamber tests - Sampling and analysis
