Note de contenu : - L'IMAGE DES POLYMERES DANS LA SOCIETE

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Structural transformations of semicrystalline polymers form an important field of current scientific research. The preparation of controlled supermolecular structure may lead to significant improvements in mechanical, thermal and optical properties. As for isotactic polypropylene (iPP), its properties essentially depend on its crystalline phase composition, which is due to polymorphism of iPP. Thus, the aim of this work is to analyze the influence of the B-phase content in polypropylene and of its spatial arrangement on mechanical properties, in particular on its impact strength. Commercially available isotactic polypropylene (iPP) was modified by various amounts of a specific B-nucleating agent (N, N’-dicyclohexylnaphtalene-2,6-dicarboxamide). From the prepared mixtures standard impact testing bars were injection molded. The structure of the specimens was studied by X-ray diffractometry, and impact properties were determined using Charpy impact tester. It was found that addition of the nucleator led to B-phase content increase, especially in the core region of the injection molded samples. The skin (surface layer of the samples) contained lower amount of B-phase. Furthermore, notch impact strength dramatically increased with increasing concentrations of the B-nucleating agent. The concentration of 0.03 wt.% of the nucleator can be considered a “boundary value” due to the fact that the maximum notch impact strength value was reached. With further addition of the nucleating agent the impact strength slowly decreased. Therefore it should be noted that the improvement of impact properties is not only due to the presence of B-phase, but also there are some synergy-applied factors – such as the structural heterogeneity and spatial arrangement of the B-phase in injection molded samples DOI : 10.3139/217.1802 En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TsgZvexOku8NRqfOK1zZgFSU9GPiji4i/view?usp=drive [...]

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : In the first part of this paper, impregnation was positioned in terms of consolidation in composite processing and theoretical model for impregnation behaviours was presented. Impregnation behaviors were classified using the parameters contained in the model. Calculation for some simple cases was conducted. In the second part, impregnation behaviors of two material groups were experimentally estimated by on-line measurement of tool gap displacement during compression molding for making UD composites. First material group is composed of 4 kinds of thermoplastics composite materials. The other is thermoplastic film stacking with opened and unopened reinforcing fiber tows. Microscopic observation on the cross-section of parts fabricated at various molding time and measurement of transverse bending strength of these parts were also conducted. Based on the theoretical model proposed in the first part and these experimental data, impregnation behaviors of these materials were systematically discussed. The results suggest basic technological ways for attaining good impregnation in thermoplastic composites. Titre : Improved spinnability of metallocene polyethylenes by using processing aids Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : R. Vogel, Auteur ; Savvas G. Hatzikiriakos, Auteur ; Harald Brünig, Auteur ; B. Tändler, Auteur ; M. Golzar, Auteur Année de publication : 2003 Article en page(s) : p. 67-73 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Melt spinning is a polymer processing technique that is strongly influenced by the extensional flow behaviour of polymer melts. Therefore only a few polymeric materials are usable for this kind of processing with sufficient take-up speeds. When approaching critical conditions of deformation most polymers show either fibre break in the molten state either by a brittle cohesive rupture or a ductile failure. During the melt spinning of pure and modified metallocene poylethylenes additional flow instabilities occur within the spinning die. Namely, wall slip, 'sharkskin' and pressure oscillations (gross fracture) may be obtained dependending on the volume flow rate. Pressure oscillations lead to diameter oscillations of the melt extrudate, which create local increase of tensile stress in the spin line. This effect immediately causes fiber break in the spinline.
Therefore, melt spinning of polyethylenes was only possible up to a critical molecular weight or its relating melt viscosity. The limitation of the molecular weight restricts the mechanical properties of the melt spun fibres. This paper reports on an attempt to find out appropriate processing aids for suppressing 'sharkskin' effects and pressure oscillations in an attempt to overcome the limitation of a critical molecular weight. At first, the critical conditions for the onset of flow instabilities for higher molecular weight polymers were analysed. Further experiments concerned with the use of processing aids for melt spinning of metallocene polyethylenes of higher molecular weights. A combination of boron nitride powder and a fluoroelastomer was found to be an effective processing aid for this process.DOI : 10.3139/217.1722 En ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QKKoX0SBuwLGtIqeg0yo6MePu06Ntr77/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=15851
