Revêtements protecteursIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Material deterioration as result of corrosion is often accepted as unavoidable and it has led to a general lack of awareness of the economic aspects of corrosion. The estimated cost of corrosion as per Hoar committee findings is approximately 3.5 percent of the U.K. GDP. For major asset owners, maintenance of anti-corrosion technology is an integral part of asset design and management to ensure asset integrity within its service life.
Defects and failure of assets during service can often be traced back to corrosion deterioration, thus corrosion monitoring and corrosion protection become a vital and integral part of construction and maintenance throughout the life of an asset. Several corrosion protection and monitoring techniques have been developed and these are widely used in the industry with the objective of slowing down the inevitable corrosion-degradation process. The techniques selected will vary depending on the material to be protected and the exposure environment. It is important to note that application and maintenance of corrosion protection such as painting and cathodic protection are time-consuming, costly and have safety implications.
In the construction environment, corrosion protection and monitoring are often carried out, not as stand-alone activities, but alongside other work. Therefore, good planning, logistics and engagement with other work trades become even more crucial to ensure that the corrosion-protection processes can be carried out and delivered within time and budget constraints and at the desired quality standard.Note de contenu : - Lean thinking

Most recently, surfactant-free products have been introduced with great success. It is high time tohave a closer look at their application characteristics in comparison to traditional surfactant-containing products and to carry out a detailed evaluation for the potential user.

Revêtements antisalissures:Peinture antisalissuresIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : • Six lectures presented in 2012 at a half-day seminar dealing with corrosion-related topics, organised by OCCA's West Riding Section, are summarised.
• Metallic flake pigments have been shown to provide better performance at lower addition rates than ordinary particles. This concept is now being developed from anticorrosive coatings to antifoulings, using copper flake pigments.
Some basic principles of corrosion were outlined in the second lecture. Corrosion is essentially an electrochemical process, requiring the presence of moisture and oxygen. Some coating failure issues were also briefly outlined.
The keynote speech by Dr Siva Biihm of Tata Steel described a number of innovative anticorrosive coatings developed by the company.
A number of zinc-free anticorrosive pigments were described. The speaker noted that high performance could be obtained by careful pigment selection, and that synergies can be obtained by using a mixture of such pigments.
• Liquid corrosion inhibitors based on DNNS salts were described. Their advantages include high transparency for use in ciear coatings and synergy with solid inhibitors in other coatings.
• Finally, the development and application of new coating systems on the famous Forth Bridge in Scotland was described. For more than a century, maintenance painting has been a continuous activity, but the new coating system has a much longer design lifetime of 25 years minimum.Note de contenu : - UNDERSTANDING THE USE OF METALLIC FLAKE PIGMENTS FOR ANTI-CORROSION : Protection for aluminium - Improving antifoulings

Spectroscopie d'impédance électrochimiqueIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The effect of matrix compounds on the behavior of silane–zeolite composite coatings on a 6061 aluminum alloy was evaluated by electrochemical test performed at long immersion time in 3.5% NaCl solution. It was observed that silane chains influence the hydrophobic behavior and the electrochemical performances of the zeolite-based composite coating. All composite coatings showed a long-term protection action in 3.5% NaCl solution. The use of silane compounds with long alkyl chain or with bi-hydroxyl groups made it possible to obtain electrochemically stable coating during long immersion time. Best results have been obtained with a multicomponent silane mixture (short and long molecular chains).
